2016 Beanpot Championship Game Information
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Two runs on four hits were far from what the Northeastern baseball team needed on Tuesday afternoon against Bryant as the Bulldogs came through with a 19-2 victory against the Huskies at Friedman Diamond.
Â
NU rookies
Charlie McConnell and
David Hopkins bookended the Huskies' batting order with two hits and three walks collectively, factoring in during both of Northeastern's scoring plays. Hopkins recorded his second RBI of the season in the second inning when his infield single scored
Cam Walsh from third, while McConnell darted home on
Ryan Solomon's RBI single down the left-field line in the eighth.
Â
Keith Kelly extended his reached-base streak to a new season long, 17 games, courtesy of a one-out single in the bottom of the first. With the exception of the Huskies' March 19 game against Buffalo, Kelly has made it to first safely during each one of Northeastern's games this season, boasting separate reached-base streaks of 17 and 16 games.
Â
Six different players finished with multiple hits for Bryant (25-7), most notably Matt Albanese, who cracked two home runs. Nick Angelini, Buck McCarthy, and Malik Daley each belted doubles as the Bulldogs trumped the Huskies in hits, 16-4.
Â
Andrew Misiaszek made his first collegiate start for Northeastern (19-15), allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits during two innings on the bump.
Tyler Brown struck out two, surrendering four between the third and the fifth.
Â
Despite making a variety of diving stops and defensive plays at shortstop throughout the afternoon,
Max Burt had a chance to help
Brian Christian out of the sixth inning when a ground ball slipped between the fielder's legs, scoring two. During the next at-bat, Albanese unloaded a three-run homer, solidifying Bryant's sixth-inning lead at 16-1.
Â
NU reliever
Mike Piscopo fanned each of the first three batters he faced on strikes, allowing three hits before
Mike Driscoll entered in the top of the ninth.
