Beanpot History
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Northeastern baseball team's bid at a seventh Beanpot championship was not meant to be on Wednesday evening at the New England Baseball Complex as the Huskies finished runner-up to Boston College, 8-2.

Right-hander
Nate Borges picked up nine outs from the first 10 BC batters he faced, having started his outing with a swinging strikeout against Jake Palomaki. The junior allowed just five hits, a career low given at least five innings pitched, but surrendered a pair of runs in the fourth and the fifth.

Center fielder
Mason Koppens made one of the Huskies' best defensive plays of the year in the top of the fourth, leaping hallway up the fence to bring back a would-have-been homer from Nick Sciortino. Koppens laced two singles with a bat in his hands and helped Northeastern (19-16) avoid the shutout in the ninth with an RBI knock through the right side.

Boston College (19-14) scored five of its eight runs courtesy of homers and pelted 14 hits off the Huskies' arms. Gian Martellini and Sciortino both hammered solo shots, while Logan Hoggarth hit a three-run jack in the top of the seventh to put the Eagles ahead, 8-0.

Like Koppens,
Keith Kelly and
Jake Farrell also finished with two hits apiece. Farrell stole his first career base as well.

With the win, Boston College celebrated its 12th Beanpot championship and second in as many years. Northeastern finished in second place for the seventh time in program history.
