BROOKLINE, Mass. – A two-RBI triple by
Jake Farrell and an RBI single by
Cam Walsh provided the Northeastern baseball team with all the scoring it needed during Wednesday's Beanpot semifinal at Friedman Diamond as the Huskies locked up a spot in the championship game with a 3-2 win against Harvard.
Â
Despite the Crimson retaining their designation as the home team after snow had moved the game from Cambridge to Brookline, the Huskies withstood Harvard's six hits, positing seven of their own. Farrell, Walsh, and NU designated hitter
Zach Perry each came away with multi-hit games, while
Max Burt's ground-rule double in the fifth put the Huskies in great position to score the eventual winning run.
Â
With Wednesday's semifinal victory, Northeastern (14-12) advances to its 13th Beanpot championship game in program history and first since 2013. The Huskies will play the winner between Massachusetts and Boston College on Wednesday, April 20, at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Starter
Nate Borges began his afternoon on the hill for NU with a one-two-three inning in the bottom of the first and quieted Harvard (7-15) in the second after conceding a one-out double to the Crimson's Matt Rothenberg. Redshirt-sophomore right-hander
Will Jahn received the winning decision after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out three while walking none.
Â
Perry registered the first hit of the day for either team in the top of the second, sending an 0-2 pitch from Harvard starter Simon Rosenblum-Larson to center field. Two batters later, Walsh poked a dribbler through the left side, leaving the Huskies with runners on the corners. With two outs in the inning, Farrell pummeled a ball over Crimson center fielder Ben Skinner's head, emptying the bases and awarding Northeastern a 2-0 edge.
Â
Harvard made up the deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Following an NU error, a sacrifice bunt, and a hit-by-pitch, Trent Bryan belted an RBI single to right, scoring Drew Reid to halve the Huskies' lead at 2-1. Although Northeastern catcher
Josh Treff and Burt thwarted the Crimson's double steal attempt with a fancy 2-6-2 combination, Harvard's John Fallon laced an RBI base hit to right, tying the game at 2-2.
Â
The Huskies shifted back in front during the fifth courtesy of a pair of first-pitch base knocks by Burt and Walsh. After Perry's 6-3 groundout had put two outs up on the board, Burt powered a first-pitch, ground-rule double to right center directly before Walsh sent the first pitch that he saw up the middle, scoring Burt to put NU up, 3-2.
Following Jahn's relief outing that kept Harvard at bay during the middle innings,Â
Tyler Robinson and
Mike Fitzgerald combined to not allow a hit during the seventh, eighth, or ninth. Fitzgerald also struck out two on his way to his fourth save of the year.
Â
In dramatic fashion, Northeastern's defense picked up the final out of the game on a caught stealing play as Treff, Burt, and Farrell combined to go 2-6-3 to send the Huskies to the 27th annual Beanpot final.
Â
Northeastern will resume conference play on Friday, April 8, with a 3 p.m. home game against Elon.
