LOWELL, Mass. – Six brilliant innings out of freshman hurler
Andrew Misiaszek together with multi-hit games by
Charlie McConnell and
Cam Walsh was the perfect combination for the Northeastern baseball team Tuesday night as the Huskies came away with a 7-2 win at LeLacheur Park.
Â
Misiaszek collected his third victory during his last four appearances, tossing a career long, 6.0 innings, while scattering four hits, striking out four, and allowing one run.
Tyler Robinson relieved Misiaszek at the start of the seventh and despite surrendering a leadoff homer to Russ Olive, retired six of the next seven batters he faced. Besides not entering in a save situation, closer
Mike Fitzgerald took the mound in the ninth inning, sitting the River Hawks down in order to finish his 17th game of the year.
Â
McConnell and Walsh combined for four of the Huskies' eight hits, with Walsh belting his second career triple to deep center field in the top of the ninth. Together with
Jake Farrell, the three NU rookie batsmen combined for four hits, three runs, an RBI, two stolen bases, three walks, and an extra-base hit.
UMass Lowell (17-27) struck first in the bottom of the second following a one-out double by Olive. After Misiaszek had forced Chris Sharpe into making the second out of the inning, Mark Tumosa's soft pop up towards the left side bounced past a diving McConnell at third, resulting in an RBI single that put the River Hawks ahead, 1-0.
Â
Northeastern (26-21) responded in the third with a four-run frame that began with a base hit by
Josh Treff and a bunt single by McConnell that led to a throwing error. With Treff at third base,
Mason Koppens delivered an RBI groundout to the right side that tied the game at 1-1 and moved McConnell up into scoring position.
Â
Walks issued to
Keith Kelly and
Pat Madigan sandwiched an RBI groundout by Walsh that sent NU in front, 2-1.
Zach Perry then powered a two-RBI double to the wall in left center, scoring Madigan and Kelly to give the Huskies a three-run lead.
Â
Northeastern tacked on two more runs during the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a two-out rally. With McConnell at third following a wild pitch and his team-leading, 24th stolen base, UMass Lowell's Cam Lanzilli filled the vacant bases by hitting Kelly and walking Walsh. On an 0-2 pitch, Madigan ripped a single through the left side, scoring a pair of NU runs to boost the Huskies' lead to 6-1.
Â
Walsh scored Northeastern's seventh run in the ninth, scoring on a wild pitch that followed his leadoff triple.

REACTION
Â
Northeastern head coach
Mike Glavine...Â
Â
...on the Huskies' performance Tuesday night
"I think we just played a really solid game of team baseball. We had timely hits, we stole bases, we threw behind runners, and we made plays. I was really impressed. This was our first time playing on dirt since our series against Cornell [March 5-6]. It was good to see the guys get out there and move their feet on defense in the infield to make some plays."
Â
...on Northeastern's pitchers
"We had a great game on the mound and it started with Andrew [Misiaszek] pumping strikes. He did a great job and worked fast. Tempo is a weapon on the mound and he used it tonight. He was awesome. Tyler [Robinson] and Mike [Fitzgerald] both threw well too."
Â
...on the NU batsÂ
"We had some timely hits, especially out of the middle of the order. We had big hits out of
Zach Perry and
Pat Madigan.
Cam Walsh had two hits. Charlie [McConnell] had another great game and really ran the bases well. Top to bottom, we had a great night offensively."
