BROOKLINE, Mass. – Closer Mike Fitzgerald and shortstop Max Burt etched their names atop two charts in the Northeastern baseball record book on Friday afternoon as the Huskies scored three unanswered runs to defeat Towson, 3-2, during Military Appreciation Day at Friedman Diamond.

Relieving Andrew Misiaszek with one out in the ninth, Fitzgerald ended the game with consecutive strikeouts, earning his 17th career save and bringing him level with Dylan Maki (2010-13) for the Northeastern all-time record. Burt, who entered the game tied with Jason Vosler for the NU single-season assists record, picked up two during Friday's victory, breaking Vosler's mark on a routine 6-3 groundout in the top of the sixth.

NU honored the veterans and active service members in attendance by wearing special camouflage hats and custom white jerseys featuring camouflage letters and numbers lined in red trim. Prior to the game, Giselle Sterling, Commissioner of Veterans' Services for the City of Boston, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. A former member of the United States Marine Corps, Sterling was deployed internationally to Afghanistan, the Philippines, Guam, Diego Garcia, and Japan, and has since become the first Latina and first woman to ever hold the position as Commissioner.

Senior left-hander James Mulry made his final career start at Friedman Diamond, striking out five during five full innings on the mound. Mulry walked in two runs during Towson's bases-loaded rally in the top of the second, but finished his outing with three straight scoreless frames.

Misiaszek, also a lefty, continued what Mulry had started in the sixth, keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard from the sixth to the ninth. The freshman from Oceanside, New York, registered two of his three strikeouts during the top of the eighth and upon conceding his lone hit to Colin Dyer in the sixth, retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced.

Making his return to the lineup for Northeastern (29-24, 12-10 CAA), Cam Hanley flipped a 1-2 count into an eight-pitch walk in the bottom of the second, giving the Huskies a one-out base runner to work with. Switching places with Hanley on an awkward fielder's choice to center field, Treff proceed to take second on a wild pitch by Kevin Ross, leaving first base open for Charlie McConnell to draw a walk.

With runners on first and second, Burt powered an RBI single up the middle, halving Towson's lead at 2-1, one at-bat before Mason Koppens drilled a second RBI single up the gut, scoring McConnell and tying the game at 2-2.

Hanley made his presence known when he blasted a sixth-inning double to the wall in right center. With Treff aboard after being plunked with an 0-1 pitch, McConnell laced an RBI two-bagger over third base and down the left-field line, sending the Huskies in front for good, 3-2.

As a result of College of Charleston's 6-1 loss Friday against William & Mary, Northeastern is guaranteed to play James Madison in the first round of next week's CAA tournament (May 25-28), despite the fact that neither NU nor JMU has clinched the No. 4 or No. 5 seed yet. NU can only claim the No. 5 seed with a loss on Saturday against Towson (19-35, 9-14 CAA), else the Huskies will be the No. 4 seed in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (College of Charleston).

Northeastern and Towson will complete the 2016 regular season on Saturday, May 21, at 12 p.m. Senior Day festivities at Friedman Diamond will begin at 11:45 a.m.
