BOSTON – With eyes on claiming its first ever CAA championship, the Northeastern baseball team descends this week on The Ballpark at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where the Huskies will square off among the top six teams in the league for a chance to advance to the NCAA tournament. As the No. 5 seed, NU will play in the opening game of the CAA tourney and meet No. 4 James Madison on Wednesday, May 25, at 12 p.m.
 Â
LEADING OFF
Â
- Northeastern is making its fourth CAA tournament appearance and sixth overall appearance (2006, 2009, 2013-16). NU is 5-10 all-time in CAA tournament games.
- As the No. 5 seed, the Huskies will be meeting No. 4 James Madison in the opening game of the CAA tourney. The winner will advance to Game 4 and take on No. 1 UNCW on Thursday, May 26, at 12 p.m. The loser will drop to the elimination ladder and play the loser between No. 3 Elon and No. 6 College of Charleston on Wednesday, May 25, at 7 p.m.
- NU and JMU have three prior CAA tournament meetings (2006, 2013, 2014), two fewer than the Huskies have had against their most common CAA postseason opponent, Delaware (five times).
- Northeastern has won at least one game during each of its last three CAA tournaments. The Huskies have advanced as far as Game 9 (fourth elimination game), which NU made in 2013.
-
Aaron Civale has thrown 7.0 IP or more during each of his 14 starts this season. As of May 19, he was the only Division I player to achieve that mark, given at least 14 starts (120 pitchers).
- While considering all games,
Aaron Civale leads the CAA in ERA (1.84),
Dustin Hunt leads the CAA in ERA considering only conference games (1.60).
- As a team, Northeastern leads the CAA in ERA (3.70) and fielding percentage (.978). The Huskies are also tied for the league lead in strikeouts with its program CAA record, 424.
-
RECORD WATCH: Aaron Civale (111 strikeouts) and
Dustin Hunt (86) rank second and 10th, respectively, on the NU single-season strikeout list. Civale needs nine to tie Adam Ottavino's 2006 season record (120).
-
RECORD WATCH: NU closer
Mike Fitzgerald broke the school's single-season saves record on May 13 with his 10th save. With 17 during his career, he is tied for the program's all-time record with Dylan Maki (2010-13).
