MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – With wins during two consecutive elimination games, the Northeastern baseball team needed a third to continue its stay in the 2016 CAA tournament but unfortunately could not pull through on Friday afternoon as the Huskies exited the postseason field with a 5-1 loss against William & Mary.

Cam Hanley paced No. 5 Northeastern (31-27) with two hits and reached base three times, scoring the lone NU run of the day on Josh Treff's RBI single in the top of the sixth. No. 2 William & Mary (26-29) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the third inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, riding starter Dan Powers' complete game the rest of the way for the victory.

Pitching for the second time in three days, Andrew Misiaszek started the Huskies' fourth game of the 2016 CAA tournament, limiting the Tribe to one hit, a double by Josh Smith, during the opening two innings.

Having surrendered a leadoff single to Ryan Hall in the bottom of the third, Misiaszek did well fielding Ryder Miconi's bunt, throwing out the lead runner at second base. However, Cullen Large moved two William & Mary runners into scoring position during the next at-bat, singling and taking second base on a well-struck ball to right field.

With runners on second and third, Charley Gould put the Tribe ahead, 1-0, on an RBI groundout to David Hopkins, two batters before Smith powered a two-RBI triple to left center, awarding William & Mary a 3-0 advantage.

Will Jahn relieved Misiaszek at the start of the fourth inning, picking up five outs, two of which came by strikeout. Hunter Smith brought the Tribe's fourth run across on Jahn's watch, delivering a sacrifice fly to deep center. Upon Mike Fitzgerald relieving Jahn before the next at-bat, the NU closer's pitch ducked away from Treff at the plate, allowing Large to come home and put William & Mary up, 5-0.

Four of the Huskies' seven hits came during Northeastern's sixth-inning rally that was interrupted by a 5-4-3 double play. Charlie McConnell led off the inning with a first-pitch single to right, but was called out at second as the William & Mary infielders successfully turned two.

With the bases clear, Hanley proceeded to start fresh and sent his second hit of the game to left field. After Cam Walsh had dropped a bunt down on the left side of the pitcher's mound for another two-out single, Treff pelted an RBI knock to center, scoring Hanley to pull the Huskies within four runs.

Fitzgerald earned the final 10 defensive outs of the game for Northeastern and did not allow a run, striking out three while walking none.

Northeastern finishes the 2016 season as the fifth team in program history to win 30 or more games, joining the 1991, 1994, 1997, and 2013 Huskies. NU also ended the year as one of the final four CAA teams standing in the conference tournament for the third time in the last four years.
