AMHERST, Mass. – Four points from Jeremy Davies (one goal, three assists) and three point nights from both Adam Gaudette (two goals, one assist) and Dylan Sikura (one goal, two assists) led the charge for the Northeastern men's hockey team (11-10-5, 5-8-3), which topped Massachusetts (5-20-2, 2-12-1) in a wild affair on Tuesday night at the Mullins Center.

The win gives the Huskies four straight victories, all in league play and the longest winning streak of the season, and moves the Huskies within two points of fifth place in the Hockey East standings with six conference games still to play.

Both teams fought back from one-goal deficits on two occasions throughout the evening and combined for five first period goals. Matt Filipe (one goal, one assist) struck in the opening minute of the game before Joseph Widmar tied things up two minutes later. Garret Cockerill (one goal, one assist) put the visitors up 2-1 with a power play tally seven minutes in, but UMass would bury a pair of goals in a span of four minutes off the sticks of Jack Suter and Jake McLaughlin to give the Minutemen a 3-2 lead through 20 minutes.

Gaudette potted a pair of second period goals to keep Northeastern on track, the first two minutes in before added a second in response to a Stephen Iacobellis tally that had given Massachusetts a 4-3 lead. Davies and Sikura scored back-to-back goals with 1:50 of one another early in the third to put NU up 6-4, and Iacobellis brought UMass within one with his second of the game midway through the period.

UMass outshot the Huskies 35-29 in the game and was 1-of-5 on the power play. Northeastern went 3-of-5 on the man advantage, marking the 15th straight game that NU has capitalized on the power play. Ryan Ruck steered aside 30 Minuteman shots while Nick Renyard made four saves before being replaced by Ryan Wischow (19 saves) midway through the game.

Goal descriptions:
• Northeastern drew first blood less than a minute into the game on an individual effort from Filipe, who picked off a clearing attempt by the Minutemen in the slot, and patiently settled the puck before ripping a snapshot under the glove of Renyard for Filipe's second of the season just 52 seconds into the contest.

• Massachusetts tied things up less than three minutes in on Widmar's first goal of the year. With the Minutemen controlling the puck in the attacking zone, Ryan Badger sprinted towards the net from the left side and fired a shot on goal that Ruck knocked down, but Widmar was waiting on the doorstep to jam home the rebound for the score. The officials briefly reviewed the play, but the goal stood as called.

• Northeastern retook the lead with 12:51 remaining in the opening frame on Cockerill's sixth of the year with the Huskies on the power play. After William Lagesson was called for a hold, Dylan Sikura fed the puck up to Jeremy Davies at the right point. Davies would then slide the puck across the blue line to his partner Cockerill, who fired a one-timer top shelf to give NU a 2-1 lead.

• UMass fought right back, however, and tied the game again on a goal from Suter just 2:11 after the Cockerill goal. Ivan Chukarov began the play by sending the puck up to Austin Plevy entering the offensive zone. Plevy then saucered a pass in front of the net, where a cutting Suter picked it out of midair and past Ruck for his second of the season.

• The Minutemen took its first lead of the evening with 7:01 left in the opening frame with a power play strike from McLaughlin. After NU was whistled for a crosscheck, Ray Pigozzi took a pass from Shane Bear along the half wall. Pigozzi then spotted McLaughlin creeping in from the point, and threaded a pass across the seam to him, who wristed one past Ruck for his first collegiate tally.

• Northeastern brought the game back to even just two minutes into the second period on Gaudette's 14th of the year. With NU in transition, Lincoln Griffin deflected the puck up to Gaudette as he crossed the blue line. Gaudette then corralled the puck and wired a shot from just inside the point through the legs of a UMass defender and into the top left corner to make it 3-3.

• The deadlock wouldn't last long, though, as UMass came right back with a goal from Iacobellis 62 seconds after the Gaudette strike. After Massachusetts dumped the puck in from the neutral zone, PIgozzi raced down ice to beat out the icing call before feeding Niko Hildenbrand atop the crease for a shot that Ruck steered aside, but Iacobellis was there to knock in the rebound for his sixth of the season.

• Gaudette tied the game yet again with 7:52 left to play in the second period with his second of the game and 15th of the year. In the final seconds of a Northeastern power play, Sikura got the puck alone in the slot and rocketed a low shot that Wischow got a pad on, but the rebound redirected right to Gaudette who buried the rebound from the left side.

• Northeastern went up 5-4 five minutes into the third period on Davies' sixth of the year. With a delayed penalty call upcoming on the Minutemen, Gaudette stickhandled in and out of a UMass defender before tossing a shot on goal that Wischow steered aside, but Davies pressed on and ripped a low shot from the left side that beat him five-hole.

• On the ensuing power play, NU took a two-goal lead on Sikura's 17th of the year. With Northeastern skating on a five-on-three power play advantage, Davies and Cockerill played catch with the puck as the Huskies began to close in on the cage. Cockerill then fed Sikura in the right face-off dot for a low one-timer that got through Wischow.

• Massachusetts continued to fight and brought the game back to within one with 9:53 remaining in regulation on Iacobellis' second of the evening, finishing off a two-on-two rush with Pigozzi to bang home a loose puck in the crease to make it 6-5.
