BOSTON – One of three remaining unbeaten teams in the CAA, the Northeastern women's basketball team will look to string together its fifth consecutive win on Sunday, Jan. 8, as NU welcomes Drexel to Cabot Center for a 2 p.m., travel-day matinee. The two programs will be meeting for the first time since the 2016 CAA semifinals, when the Huskies were handed a 58-45 defeat by the Dragons.
Â
GO, DOG. GO!
Â
Northeastern has been surging of late and enters Sunday's contest as the winners of four straight games, two straight league games, and two straight home games. Since Feb. 5, 2016, the Huskies have fared particularly well against the CAA, winning nine of their last 11 regular-season conference games. Including the postseason, Northeastern is 10-3 during its last 13 competitions against CAA opponents.
Â
FANTASTIC FOUR
Â
The Huskies' active four-game winning streak is the fifth multi-game streak NU has undergone under head coach
Kelly Cole and also ranks as the second longest. During February 2016, Northeastern rattled off wins during six consecutive league games to swoop into the conference tournament's No. 6 seed.
Â
ALL-TIME AGAINST DREXEL
Â
Northeastern and Drexel have only played each other as members of the same conference, crossing paths in the America East (and its predecessor, North Atlantic Conference) between 1992 and 2001, as well as annually in the CAA since 2006. Although NU owned a 16-7 advantage against the Dragons during both programs' stay in the America East, Drexel has since turned the all-time series in its favor and heads into Sunday's game with a 25-20 lead.
Â
HUSKIES AT HOME
Â
Northeastern is 3-2 this season in home games played at Cabot Center and 1-0 in home conference games following its 72-64 victory against Towson on Jan. 6. The Huskies have also won two straight home games.
Â
DRAGONS ON THE ROAD
Â
Two of Drexel's three losses during the 2016-17 campaign have come away from the Dragons' home floor in Philadelphia: at Vanderbilt (L, 63-73) on Nov. 16 and at Bucknell (L, 66-78) on Nov. 27. Since then, Drexel has won two consecutive true road games, in addition to sweeping a pair of non-conference games against George Mason and Massachusetts at the 2016 FIU Holiday Tournament (hosted by Florida International).
Â
