HARRISONBURG, Va. -- In a clash of two perennial CAA contenders, the Northeastern women's soccer team (9-4-1, 3-0-1) came away with a 2-1 win over James Madison (7-6-0, 2-2-0) on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies broke through early as junior
Nicole Gorman scored her second goal of the season in the third minute. Junior
Valentina Soares Gache registered her first assist of the year on the Gorman goal.
Freshman
Chelsea Domond collected her second goal of the year in the 32nd minute which proved to be the game-winning mark.
Senior
Kayla Cappuzzo assisted on the Domond goal for her third helper of the year. The assist put Cappuzzo in a tie for the most assists in Northeastern history with 19. She's one assist away from becoming the first Husky to collect 20 career assists.
The Huskies outshot the Dukes 13-12 (6-3 on goal) and help JMU to only three shots in the second half. Senior
Hannah Lopiccolo led the Huskies with four total shots and sophomore
Kerri Zerfoss put two shots on goal.
With the victory, Northeastern has accrued 10 points through four CAA matches.
Northeastern returns to the pitch next Sunday at 1 p.m. at Elon.
