PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite firing a season-high 41 shots on goal, the No. 7 Northeastern women's hockey team (5-4-1, 3-1-0 WHEA) came up just short in a 2-1 setback at Providence (5-2-2, 2-0-0 WHEA) on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.

Senior Lauren Kelly scored her first goal of the season for the Huskies, but two Providence goals in a 50-second span midway through the second period proved to be the difference as the Friars snapped a 10-game losing streak at the hands of the Huskies.

Providence netminder Madison Myers stopped 40 shots – including 22 in the second period – while Northeastern's Brittany Bugalski turned away 30 attempts on the day.

Goal Recaps
• After a scoreless first period, Providence struck for two goals in a span of 50 seconds midway through the second to take a 2-0 lead. Christina Putigna potted the opener with an unassisted tally, sniping home a wrister from the top of the right circle at 9:35. Maureen Murphy then doubled the PC lead at 10:25 with a shot that snuck through the pads of Bugalski from the opposite wing.
• Northeastern cut the deficit in half at 15:12 of the second stanza on a power-play goal by Kelly. After Brooke Hobson's point-shot was blocked to the left corner, Kelly scooped up the loose disc behind the goal-line and alertly threw it back towards the net, where it caromed off Myers and into the cage to make it 2-1.
