Huskies, Phoenix to square off Thursday

The Huskies will round out the regular season on the road on North Carolina this week

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team will round out the regular season this week with a two-game road trip to the state of North Carolina.
 
The Huskies will begin the week off with a Thursday night meeting at Elon at 7 p.m.
 
The Huskies are 1-1 all-time at Alumni Gym winning last season's CAA opener over the Phoenix 86-79.

• This is the 97th season of Northeastern men's basketball. Northeastern has an all-time record of 1,186-1,099 (.519) in 2,285 games
• The Huskies are 378-262 (.591) all-time in conference play including a 120-92 (.566) record since joining the CAA in the 2005-06 season

• Following his 18-point performance against Charleston, T.J. Williams has now notched at least 20 points in 16 of 28 games this season and is averaging a CAA leading 21.4 ppg (14th nationally) to go along with 5.1 assists per game, 3rd in the CAA and 50th nationally
• The Huskies have recorded a double-double seven times this season, with Anthony Green notching the most recent one, his first career double-double
• Green is the fifth different Husky to tally a double-double on the year, the first time five different Huskies have notched a double-double in the same season since the 2002-03 season
• Devon Begley has been stingy this season making 48 steals on the season, the most in the CAA and 47th most nationally
 
FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
• T.J. Williams has made 175 free throws this season, the most in CAA play and fifth most nationally this season.
• Williams' 175 made free throws (28 games) this season rank second all-time in a single-season in Northeastern history
• The only Husky with more is Reggie Lewis who had 184 in 1985-86

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
• Elon is 17-12 on the season, and are 9-7 in conference play, heading into the final week of the regular season
• The Phoenix are 9-3 at home this season on the season, only falling to the College of Charleston at home in conference play, posting a 6-1 record during conference play
 
LEADING THE WAY
• Elon is led by Tyler Seibring who is averaging 14.1 points and 6.6 rebounds a game while adding 25 blocks on the season
• Four different members of the team are averaging over 10.0 points per game led by Seibring followed by Brian Dawkins (12.9), Dainan Swoope (11.7) and Steven Santa Ana (11.6)
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
• This will be just the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams as they have split the season series the last two seasons
• Elon earned a 51-49 victory earlier this season in Boston
 
LAST TIME VS. ELON
• T.J. Williams went in for the game-tying basket with time winding down in regulation and his driving layup rimmed out as Northeastern fell in a tight game to Elon 51-49 at Matthews Arena
• The loss was the Huskies' first on their home turf this season and their fourth straight while Elon won its third straight contest.
• Alex Murphy added 11 points and 10 rebounds and finished with his first career double-double hitting some big threes down the stretch for Northeastern
•His double-double marks the sixth of the season for Northeastern as he becomes the fourth different Husky this year to notch a double-double.
• Williams finished with a team-high 12 points for the Huskies, his first game under 16 points this season while Devon Begley added seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals
• Elon was led by Tyler Seibring who had 15 points & eight rebounds while Brian Dawkins had 12 points & eight boards
 
LAST WEEK IN NU BASKETBALL
• The Huskies started the week off with a Thursday night meeting against first place UNCW at Matthews Arena
• The Huskies could not get their offense going in the first half and saw themselves down by 20 at halftime, 39-19 to the Seahawks
• However, Northeastern was undeterred and instead went on a 16-1 run after the half to make it a six-point game thanks to a slam by Anthony Green that jumpstarted the streak
• During the stretch, Green, T.J. Williams and Alex Murphy accounted for all 16 of Northeastern's points
• Later in the second half, Williams and Green cut the Seahawks lead to just one with 52.6 seconds left, but UNCW came away with a steal and sealed the win with four free throws down the stretch
• Williams finished with a career-high 33 points on the night, tallying 27 of those in the second half matching UNCW's entire second half output
• On Saturday afternoon, five different Huskies registered a double-digit scoring effort, the fourth time this season they have done so, but Northeastern fell 85-71 to Charleston
• Three different Cougars accounted for 84% of the team's points on the day led by Joe Chealey's 29

• Recording 577 points this season through the first 28 games, T.J. Williams now has 1,312 points in his Northeastern career
• Williams, crossed the 1,000-point mark in the first half against William & Mary driving to the basket for a layup
• With that basket he became the 37th player to hit the milestone in Northeastern's program history
• Currently Williams ranks 16th all-time on the NU scoring charts passing Manny Adako (1,209) at William & Mary
