BOSTON – Enduring a 17-game stretch away from home to begin the 2017 season, the Northeastern baseball team will make its Friedman Diamond debut on Tuesday, March 21, when NU hosts Boston College, renewing a local rivalry that dates back to 1922. The Huskies and the Eagles have met at least once annually since the 1946 season, with Tuesday's contest scheduled to be the 162nd installment in the all-time series.

ADMISSION & PARKING

Entry to all Northeastern home games at Friedman Diamond is free and seating at the John "Tinker" Connelly Pavilion is general admission. Fans should be advised that there is limited first-come, first-serve parking available at Friedman Diamond.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Northeastern (7-10) will turn to freshman left-hander Sean Mellen on Tuesday with hopes that the six-foot-five, 190-pound hurler will be able to replicate the success he had during his first career start on March 8 at the 2017 Snowbird Classic (Port Charlotte, Florida). That morning against Toledo, Mellen carried a no-hitter and a shutout into the bottom of the seventh inning, where he collected two more outs before losing both on sequential base hits. Tacking on a scoreless inning of relief on March 12 against Bucknell, he was named CAA Rookie of the Week the following day. Through four appearances this season, Mellen holds a 4.63 ERA across 11 and two-thirds innings, having struck out six and allowed five hits.

Opposing Mellen will be six-foot-three, right-hander Jack Nelson, who will be making his first collegiate start for Boston College (6-11). Nelson has attained a 4.05 ERA through six and two-thirds innings this year and like Mellen, enjoyed his longest outing of the season against Toledo, tossing four scoreless frames against the Rockets on March 7. The BC sophomore also has pitching experience against Northeastern, having thrown two innings and received the winning decision during the Eagles' 7-6 victory at Friedman Diamond on May 4, 2016.

HUSKIES AS THE HOME TEAM

Despite spending 17 games away from Friedman Diamond, Northeastern has had four opportunities to bat as the home side, all during the Huskies' stay at the Snowbird Classic. There, NU went 3-1 as the home team, collectively hitting .392 and slugging .569 against Chicago State (W, 10-7), Central Michigan (W, 9-8), Lehigh (W, 12-6), and Bucknell (L, 7-9).

NU IN HOME OPENERS

Northeastern has won four of its last five home openers at Friedman Diamond, splitting two games against Boston College during that stretch. Last year, the Huskies needed 12 innings to win the first game on their home calendar, walking off, 1-0, against Buffalo courtesy of Zach Perry's RBI single up the middle.

MOVIN' THE BATS

The Huskies enter their midweek rivalry game against Boston College with nine players hitting .300 or above, most notably Michael Geaslen, who leads the squad with a .444 batting average. NU shortstop Max Burt, who ranks second on the team with a .388 average, enters Tuesday's game riding a 10-game hitting streak. Charlie McConnell has also reached safely during 10 consecutive games as both he and Burt try to track down rookie Scott Holzwasser's season-high, 13-game reached base streak.

UP NEXT

The Huskies will begin CAA action on the road at Elon, beginning a three-game, league series on Friday, March 24, at 6 p.m.
