BOSTON – Winner of five of its final six regular season games, the Northeastern women's basketball team will have late-season momentum on its side when the Huskies arrive in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and the campus of James Madison University to compete in the 2017 CAA tournament. Having earned the conference's No. 6 seed, NU will oppose No. 3 Drexel during the league quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. as the Huskies seek their second consecutive berth in the CAA semifinals.
Â
CAA TOURNEY REMATCH
Â
Northeastern and Drexel will cross paths in the CAA tournament for the second consecutive season, having met during the 2016 semifinals at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. That night, the Huskies and the Dragons were tied, 40-40, with 7:35 remaining in the fourth quarter, before Drexel scored 12 unanswered points en route to defeating NU, 58-45. This season, Northeastern will be returning two-thirds of its scoring output from last year's semifinal game against the Dragons, including 12-point scorer
Francesca Sally.
Â
ALL-TIME AGAINST DREXEL
Â
Since the two programs' inaugural meeting on Jan. 24, 1992, Northeastern trails Drexel by seven games in the all-time series, 27-20. The Huskies and the Dragons have only played each other as members of the same conference, crossing paths in the America East (and its predecessor, North Atlantic Conference) between 1992 and 2001, as well as annually in the CAA since 2006. Although NU owned a 16-7 advantage against the Dragons while competing in the America East, the Huskies have only defeated Drexel four times since joining the CAA.

SALLY, ORTIZ GARNER ALL-CAA STATUS
Â
During the 2016-17 CAA Postseason Award Show on Tuesday night, Northeastern's
Francesca Sally and
Claudia Ortiz garnered respective selections to the All-CAA Second Team and Third Team. While Sally led the Huskies in scoring (12.9 points per game) during the entire 2016-17 season, Ortiz paced NU in scoring during the conference season (15.8 points per CAA game), finishing as Northeastern's top scorer during 11 of the team's 18 league contests. Together, the NU duo ranked among the top three NU players in points, rebounds, assists, steals, field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, and minutes.
ALL ABOARD THE NU FREIGHT TRAIN
For the second consecutive year, Northeastern is surging on its way into the CAA tournament. During the last two seasons, NU has combined to go 10-2 during the last six games of the regular season. A season ago, the Huskies won seven of their final nine CAA games to counter a 2-7 start to their conference schedule, finishing the year 9-9, claiming the league's No. 6 seed, and upsetting No. 3 Hofstra in the 2016 CAA quarterfinals.
GENCO LEADS NATION IN MINUTES
As of March 8, point guard
Jess Genco leads Division I in minutes per game (38.7), having played every minute of Northeastern's final seven regular season games (NU went 5-2).
THANK YOU, SENIORS
Wednesday night will mark the final regular-season home game for Northeastern seniors
Francesca Sally and
Briana Schnare. The NU duo has played an instrumental role in turning around the program from its four-win season during the 2014-15 campaign, rising up as juniors to help lead the Huskies improve by 11 victories, a tie for the seventh best turnaround across Division I that year. Sally and Schnare both arrived at Northeastern prior to the 2013-14 season and have assisted in taking the program to new heights, such as its first-ever CAA semifinal appearance in 2016.
HUSKIES EARN FANS' VOTE FOUR TIMES
