Box Score
PHILADELPHIA -- In a rematch of the 2016 CAA championship game, the Northeastern women's soccer team (6-4-1, 0-0-1) battled to a 1-1 tie against Drexel (5-4-1, 0-0-1).
The discrepancy in shots on goal was notable as the Huskies outshot the Dragons 36-15 (21-8 on goal). Drexel goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami made an astounding 20 saves in the effort, while Husky netminder
Nathalie Nidetch stopped seven Drexel shots.
Junior
Hannah Rosenblatt scored the lone goal for the Huskies in the draw. Her 65th minute strike was her fourth goal of the season and 18th career goal. Junior
Nicole Gorman drew the only assist on the goal.
Sophomore
Kerri Zerfoss took nine total shots in the match -- a career high. Four of her attempts went on goal, but none tickled the netting. Freshman
Chelsea Domond had a team-high five shots on goal for NU but couldn't beat Ogunsami. Senior
Hannah Lopiccolo put all three of her attempts on goal while
Valentina Soares Gache and
Mikenna McManus each sent a bid on net that Ogunsami kept out.
Northeastern opens the CAA season with a tie for the first time since 2015 when it played to a 0-0 draw at Elon to start conference play.
Goal Recaps:
- Off a corner early in the second half, Drexel opened the scoring. The ball came into the box and was sent on goal by Dunn. It was kicked away by a Husky defender, but not before Dunn's attempt could barely cross the goal line.
- Domond controlled the ball on the right wing and waited for her help to enter the box. With Rosenblatt cutting to the net, Domond sent the ball through and it ricocheted off the foot of Gorman to Rosenblatt in front. She capitalized on the opportunity by lacing a shot into the top of the net to tie the game for the Huskies.
Northeastern continues the young CAA season on Sunday at home against College of Charleston in the finale of Alumnae Weekend. Gametime is scheduled for 1 p.m.
