PHILADELPHIA –
Alec Supinski's equalizing goal during the late stages of the second half helped the Northeastern men's soccer team prolong Saturday's match against Drexel into overtime, despite the Huskies ultimately conceding the match-winning goal to the Dragons, six minutes into the extra period.
Â
Northeastern (2-6-2, 1-2-1 CAA) took the duration of the second half to find the answer to Dakota Peterson's 51st-minute, go-ahead goal, capitalizing on the sequence that followed the Huskies' 13th corner of the match.
Minutes after
Lewis Aird had tested Drexel goalkeeper Jacob Jordan to concede the equalizer,
Dan Munch sent his corner from the right flag into the NU box, where
Moustapha Samb made a touch before Supinski cleaned up the loose ball for his first collegiate goal.
Â
The Huskies played strong attacking soccer throughout most of the afternoon, amassing a 20-11 shot advantage, including a 9-6 margin on target. NU racked up five corners during the opening eight minutes of the first half and repeatedly pressured Drexel (2-5-1, 1-1-1 CAA) along its end line, building a 13-4 advantage in the category prior to Sebastien Cabral's 96th-minute match-winner.
Â
Adama Kaba's strike during the eighth minute nearly found its way through traffic to give Northeastern the first goal of the match, but weaved wide right.
Harry Swartz was interested in breaking the scoreless tie during the 18th minute, when he was taken down by the Dragons' Lorenz Walbert, drawing a yellow card out of the head referee's pocket. With the Drexel wall positioned less than 10 yards from the Huskies' net,
Gerardo Milano attempted the ensuing free kick, but sent his try over the crossbar.
Â
Gaku Lange led Jordan into making his first of eight saves during the 38th minute, directing his shot off Aird's corner.
Â
Northeastern carried over its attacking mentality into the early moments of the second half. The Huskies nearly broke through during the 51st minute when Swartz's attempt from 10 yards in front of the right post was blocked over the end line, yielding an NU corner. However, Drexel managed to counter on Aird's kick, winning the two-on-one breakaway that led to Dakota Peterson's goal.
Â
Supinski entered the match during the 69th minute as a reserve, heading his first attempt wide during the 84th minute before providing the match-equalling heroics.
Â
Jonathan Thuresson made four saves, having faced 11 shots from the Dragons.

GOAL RECAPS
Â
•
Drexel (51st minute): Xavier Hernandez led a two-on-one breakaway for the Dragons up the midfield with Dakota Peterson to his left. With the attack nearing the edge of the 18-yard box,
Jonathan Thuresson came forward to contest Hernandez's cross, but Hernandez was able to pass cleanly to Peterson, who buried his strike into the open goal.
Â
•
Northeastern (88th minute): Dan Munch attempted the Huskies' 13th corner of the match from the right flag, crossing into Northeastern's box, where
Moustapha Samb managed to establish possession. Losing his balance, Samb directed a right-to-left pass that was disrupted by the Drexel defenders before
Alec Supinski volleyed the attempt inside the left post to level the match.
Â
•
Drexel (96th minute): In the wake of
Gerardo Milano's yellow card taking place in the midfield, Drexel proceeded to move the ball up field quickly, creating an attack along the right flank. Mathias Ebbesen completed the second of two passes to Sebastien Cabral, who tapped in the match-winning goal from six yards away.
