BOSTON – After enduring a stretch of the season that featured nine of its last 11 games taking place away from its home floor, the Northeastern women's basketball team will make its proud return to Cabot Center on Friday, Jan. 12, when NU begins a three-game CAA home stand that will span the next two weekends by hosting College of Charleston at 7 p.m. The Huskies have won four straight games against the Cougars, posting regular-season sweeps of Charleston during both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 conference campaigns.

ALL-TIME AGAINST CHARLESTON

Northeastern leads the all-time series against College of Charleston, 5-3, with all eight meetings having taken place since the Cougars' inaugural season in the CAA (2013-14). Upon Kelly Cole taking the reigns of NU prior to the 2014-15 campaign, the Huskies witnessed a steady increase in scoring margin during each of Cole's first five head coaching games against Charleston:

Date Location NU Result NU Scoring Margin
Jan. 18, 2015 Charleston, S.C. L, 38-59 -21
Feb. 22, 2015 Boston, Mass. L, 54-56 -2
Feb. 5, 2016 Charleston, S.C. W, 52-49 +3

Feb. 12, 2017 Boston, Mass. W, 61-44 +17

DRIVE FOR FIVE

Northeastern has averaged 69.3 points during its active four-game winning streak against the Cougars, which has also featured an average margin of victory of 10.8 points. The Huskies' four consecutive victories against Charleston are tied for the longest active winning streak NU has attained against current CAA competition, having earned its fourth straight win against Towson to start the 2017-18 conference season on Dec. 29 (70-61).

SCOUTING THE COUGARS

College of Charleston arrives in Boston with a 5-10 overall record and 1-3 mark during CAA play, having claimed its lone conference win at Towson on Dec. 31. The Cougars' went 4-7 during a challenging non-conference schedule, featuring true road losses at Michigan State (107-43) and No. 5/6 South Carolina (69-43), as well as a home defeat against Wake Forrest (77-40).

Redshirt-senior forward Tanisha Brown is the Cougars' leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, although Charleston's collective offense will enter Friday night as the league's only team to average fewer than 60 points per game (59.9). Tanisha Brown also paces the Cougars in rebounding (7.7 per game) and ranks second on the squad in assists (33) behind senior guard Shiclasia Brown (10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists per game). Opponents are averaging 71.3 points per game against Charleston this season.

3-POINT OFFENSE vs. DEFENSE

Friday's game between the Huskies and the Cougars will feature the conference's best 3-point offense (Northeastern) take on the league's best 3-point defense (College of Charleston). NU leads the CAA in 3-point field goal percentage (35.7) and 3-point field goals per game (9.1), while the Cougars have held opponents to 28.7 percent shooting from behind the perimeter. Northeastern's 3-point marks also trend nationally; the Huskies are ranked 20th among Division I programs in 3-point field goals per game and rank in a tie for 24th in 3-point makes (137).

HUSKIES' 3-POINT BREAKDOWN

Seven Northeastern players have combined to produce the Huskies' 137 3-point field goals this season. Here's a look at the Huskies' top 3-point shooters:

Player 3FG 3FG% Percentage of NU 3FGs
Jess Genco 47 39.2 34.3
Shannon Todd 34 33.0 24.8
Stella Clark 21 35.0 15.3

HUSKIES BREAK 3-POINT RECORD

On a sub-20 degree day in Burlington, Vermont (Dec. 17), Northeastern cranked up the heat inside the Catamounts' Patrick Gymnasium, draining a program record, 15 3-pointers, to break the Huskies' previous record (14), set on Nov. 12, 1991, against Syracuse. NU used the entirety of the game's 40 minutes to break the mark; Jess Genco hit the Huskies' first 3-pointer less than 10 seconds into the game, while Zoe Zwerling popped the record-breaking, 15th 3-pointer with 1:47 remaining in regulation. Northeastern shot 44 percent from behind the arc (15-for-34) during its 71-66 win and even received a little luck along the way as Genco knocked down a 3-point buzzer beater to end the first quarter, while Gabby Giacone narrowly beat the shot clock during the closing seconds of the third quarter. Shannon Todd knocked down a career high, five 3-pointers, to lead the Huskies from downtown.

ORTIZ DROPS 31

Senior guard Claudia Ortiz recorded the Huskies' third 30-point scoring game during the last five seasons when she dropped a career high, 31 points, courtesy of her career high, seven 3-point field goals, on Jan. 7 against Elon. Ortiz shot 50 percent from the field (10-for-20) and was rewarded with a little luck during the Huskies' final possession, draining a 3-point buzzer beater at the end of regulation from the right side to achieve her two career highs after Northeastern's defeat (78-71) had been decided. She joined NU alums Tiffany Montagne (34 points, Dec. 2013) and Francesca Sally (30 points, Feb. 2017) in reaching the 30-point threshold since the start of the 2013-14 season. Sally's 30-point effort took place during the Huskies' most recent game against College of Charleston (Feb. 24, 2017).

HOME SWEET HOME

Northeastern turned in a 5-4 record while enduring a brutal stretch of its schedule that featured nine of 11 games away from Cabot Center. The Huskies split games at each of their two non-conference tournaments, finishing runner-up at the 2017 Beach Classic (hosted by Long Beach State) before the holidays. As of Jan. 11, Northeastern's five victories away from home this season are locked in a four-way tie for second most in the CAA behind William & Mary's six.

#CAAHoops PLAYERS OF THE NIGHT

NU leads the CAA with two #CAAHoops Player of the Night selections. Gabby Giacone won the league's inaugural title on Dec. 29, receiving 46 percent of the Twitter fan vote (hosted by @CAABasketball) after her 15-point, 10-rebound effort against Towson. One week later, Jess Genco landed in the winner's circle with 44 percent of the vote, having scored a season high, 21 points, and registered a career high, six steals against UNCW. Fans are encouraged to visit @CAABasketball on Twitter following each CAA game day and cast their vote in favor of the Huskies.

CLARK WINS FOURTH CAA ROOKIE HONOR

Freshman guard Stella Clark collected her fourth CAA Rookie of the Week honor of the 2017-18 season on Jan. 8, becoming the fourth Northeastern women's basketball player to win four or more conference Rookie of the Week honors (first during the program's CAA tenure). Clark averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds during the Huskies' 1-1 CAA road trip through North Carolina, pacing the NU bench with 11 points on Jan. 5 against UNCW.
