BROOKLINE, Mass. – Opposing a Hofstra side that had not conceded a goal during 762 consecutive season minutes, the Northeastern men's soccer team broke through with three goals on Wednesday night at Parsons Field, blanking the Pride, 3-0, while thwarting the visitors' 18-6 advantage in total attempts.
Â
Jacob Marin-Thomson set up Northeastern (4-5-1, 2-1-1 CAA) for its first goal of the evening during the 23rd minute. The NU freshman drew the penalty that led to
Moustapha Samb's conversion from the dot, which yielded Samb his second penalty kick goal of the season and ended Hofstra's scoreless streak at 785 minutes (first opposing goal since Sept. 2).
Â
Northeastern built on its 1-0 lead during the early stages of the second half, scoring twice within a five-minute interval before the hour mark.
Â
Luca Tausch was issued a yellow card during the 55th minute for his challenge on
Harry Swartz, presenting the Huskies with a 25-yard set piece along the right side.
Martin Nygaard proceeded to drive the ensuing kick through the right post, having now scored during back-to-back CAA matches (Oct. 6 at William & Mary).
Â
Minutes later, Swartz completed his give-and-go sequence with
Ryan Massoud, sniping the Huskies' third goal from the right side of the 18-yard box.
Â
Chandler Cree routinely denied Hofstra (6-4-3, 3-1-1 CAA), recording a season and career high, eight saves, during his second collegiate victory.
