Â
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Staging a dominant attack on Saturday against College of Charleston, the Northeastern men's soccer team scored early courtesy of
Ryan Massoud and nearly maintained its 1-0 lead through the duration of the evening's CAA match at Patriots Point, despite the Huskies succumbing to two late goals by the Cougars that were scored just 30 seconds apart.
Â
Massoud put Northeastern (5-7-1, 2-3-1 CAA) on the scoreboard during the 12th minute upon netting his team leading, fifth goal of the season.
Frankie de la Camara had made a patient cut towards the midfield before directing his right-to-left pass to
Martin Nygaard, who crossed to the back post, where Massoud was to head in the go-ahead strike.
Â
The Huskies backed their goal with steady attacking play, completing the first half with the 14-3 edge in total attempts while conceding just one attempt on target to the home side.
Â
College of Charleston (4-8-2, 1-4-1 CAA) had no answer for Northeastern until the final 10 minutes of regulation, when the Cougars blitzed the Huskies for two goals in quick succession.
Â
Cornell Holland laced the first strike during the 81st minute, threading his ball through the left post from 25 yards out in the midfield. Upon the restart, Charleston paired consecutive through balls together to sneak past the Huskies' defense with Tucker Heffron applying the one-touch finish to Joao de Souza's forward pass.
