BROOKLINE, Mass. – Tuesday's men's soccer match between Northeastern and Harvard at Parsons Field has been cancelled after lightning delays disrupted play at two instances, causing the match to end prematurely – nine minutes before it would have been deemed official.
Due to the cancellation, statistics from Tuesday's contest will not count towards the 2018 season.
Northeastern (5-7-1) and Harvard (3-10-0) were tied at 1-1 when play was stopped for the second time during the 61st minute. Per NCAA rules, the match would not have been allowed to restart more than three hours after kickoff (4:05 p.m.).
Moustapha Samb had scored the go-ahead goal for the Huskies during the 39th minute, completing what would have been his third penalty kick goal of the season.
Harvard leveled the match during the 56th minute, when Havard Hjermstad crossed from the right corner into the box, where Alfred Perez volleyed to equalize.
The match was first interrupted during the 17th minute by a 47-minute lightning delay.
