FORT MYERS, Fla. – With every batter in a Northeastern uniform recording at least one hit, and some even more for a total of 19, the Huskies clinched their first win of the 2018 season Saturday in a 12-7 redemption victory over Creighton.
Starter
Tyler Brown set the tone for the Huskies' outing when he struck out the first batter he faced, and his defense was there behind him to field two grounders and land
Charlie McConnell in the batter's box. The right-fielder notched the first hit of the game for either side with a single and went on to register two more singles and a double, going a perfect 5-5 on the day and scoring three runs.
Northeastern doubled their tally in the sixth inning behind a six-run rally that spanned almost the entirety of their lineup. In the cleanup spot, Koppens got things going with a leadoff double before scoring on a wild throw that had aimed to retire McConnell, who had bunted down the third base line. Singles from
Nolan Lang and
Scott Holzwasser sent McConnell home before
Max Burt was called out on a fielder's choice, scoring Lang, and
Ryan Solomon reached on an error that sent Holzwasser across the plate.
Jake Farrell capped Northeastern's scoring for the day with his first home run of the season, a two-out rocket that saw him cross the plate behind Solomon.
Two was the magic number for Farrell, who performed under pressure on two separate occasions. Refusing to leave runners stranded whenever he stepped up with two outs, he recorded two RBI on a fifth-inning double in addition to his homer.
Andrew Misiaszek and
Brian Rodriguez also made appearances for the Huskies on the hill, though Brown was credited with the win after pitching through five innings.
