FORT MYERS, Fla. – Northeastern baseball took the lead in the first inning and never let it go, beating the Creighton Blue Jays 8-3 on Sunday at City of Palms Park. This victory secured the Huskies' first series win of the season.

Scott Holzwasser led the way for the Red and Black, going 3-for-3 with his first home run of the season. The sophomore finished the game with four RBI, while also adding a single and double.
Jake Farrell and
Mason Koppens each had one hit and one RBI against the Blue Jays.Â
Sophomore
Sean Mellen had a great season-debut, going five innings and allowing just two runs. The Massachusetts native finished with 11 strikeouts, the most by a Northeastern pitcher in a single-game since
Brian Christian's 11 on April 2, 2017.Â
Sophomore
David Stiehl came in the sixth and picked up where Mellen left off, striking out the side in order. Steiehl went for three innings, striking out four and giving up one run.
Kyle Murphy finished off the Blue Jays in the ninth with two fly-outs and a strikeout. .
The Huskies offense came to life early, putting five runs on the board in the first inning.Â
Charlie McConnell and
Nolan Lang started off the inning with two singles. Holzwasser's three-run shot gave Northeastern the lead. Koppens tacked on another run in the first with a double down the line to score Farrell.Â
Northeastern added three more runs over the three innings, with RBI from Farrell, Holzwasser and
Cam Walsh.

The Huskies will play their annual spring exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, Feb. 22, at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. First pitch of the seven-inning contest is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
