BOSTON – Returning to the Sunshine State for another round of non-conference action, the Northeastern baseball team will pull into Port Charlotte on Friday, March 2, to begin a four-game, five-day stay at the 2018 Snowbird Classic. NU is scheduled to oppose Presbyterian (Friday, March 2), Dartmouth (Saturday, March 3), and Villanova (Sunday, March 4) during the weekend before concluding its tournament trip against Georgetown on Tuesday, March 6.

ALL-TIME SERIES

• Presbyterian: Northeastern is 1-1 all-time against the Blue Hose with both prior meetings taking place during the 2014 Snowbird Classic. The Huskies won a 12-11 shootout on March 5, 2014, receiving eight of their 14 hits from the top three batters in their lineup: center fielder Connor Lyons (three), first baseman and reliever Brad Burcroff (two), and second baseman Michael Foster (three). Three days later on March 8, NU let a 3-2 lead at the seventh-inning stretch slip to Presbyterian's two-run rally that same inning as the Blue Hose went on to prevail, 4-3.

• Dartmouth: The Huskies trail the Big Green, 13-11, in the all-time series – one that dates as far back as 1929. Northeastern will oppose Dartmouth for the first time since the 2002 season, when the Huskies took two games from the Big Green in Bradenton, Florida. Each of the two programs' last five series meetings (spanning between 1998 and 2002) has taken place at neutral Florida ballparks.

• Villanova: Northeastern leads Villanova, 4-3, in the all-time series with the programs sharing a 2-2 record when opposing each other in Florida. NU defeated the Wildcats, 7-2, during its final game at the 2013 Snowbird Classic and proceeded to win two out of three games when the two sides contested a weekend series at Villanova Ballpark during the 2014 campaign.

• Georgetown: The Huskies and the Hoyas have met exclusively in Florida during their three-game, all-time series, which stands in favor of Northeastern at 2-1. NU lost its initial outing against Georgetown, 5-3, during 2005, but has bounced back to win both the 2007 and 2012 meetings by respective scores of 13-1 and 9-7.

HUSKIES AT THE SNOWBIRD CLASSIC

• Northeastern's 2018 trip to the Snowbird Classic will mark the Huskies' sixth of the decade and second during as many years.

• The Huskies posted a 4-3 record during their 2017 stay in Port Charlotte, picking up wins against Chicago State (10-7), Central Michigan (9-8), Toledo (9-2), and Lehigh (12-6).

• Since 2011, Northeastern has achieved a 16-14 record while competing in the neutral-site tournament, including a 5-0 mark during 2013.

HEADLINES

• Northeastern is coming off a four-game series split against Missouri at City of Palms Park (Fort Myers, Florida), during which the Huskies recorded the program's first-ever victories against SEC competition.

• NU opened the year with seven consecutive games at City of Palms Park, where the Huskies posted a 4-3 record: 2-1 against Creighton and 2-2 against Missouri.

• Two weeks into the 2018 season, the Huskies boast the top offense in the CAA (.287 batting average). Northeastern also leads the conference in both runs and hits per nine innings with respective marks of 6.49 and 10.77.

• Sophomore left-hander Sean Mellen has combined to throw 15 strikeouts during his first two starts of the year. Mellen tossed a career high, 11 strikeouts, against Creighton on Feb. 18 and limited Missouri to one run during seven innings of work on Feb. 25.

• Charlie McConnell and Jake Farrell are both hitting north of .450 through their first seven starts of the season. McConnell leads the Huskies in batting average (.467), hits (14), doubles (four), and stolen bases (five). Farrell is hitting .464 at the plate and paces NU in RBIs (nine) as well as slugging percentage (.750).

UP NEXT

After opening the 2018 season with 11 consecutive neutral-site games in Florida, Northeastern will travel to Auburn on Friday, March 9, when the Huskies will begin a three-game series against the Tigers at Plainsman Park. All three games will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
