BOSTON – Resuming a 10-game road trip, the Northeastern baseball team will return to New England action on Wednesday, March 28, when the Huskies travel to Rhode Island for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Bill Beck Field.

Northeastern earned the No. 2 spot in the first New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division I regional poll of the 2018 season. The Huskies received one first-place vote and 17 total points, finishing two points behind first-place Connecticut, which earned the other three first-place votes.

Northeastern enters the week ranked as New England's No. 2 team, according to this week's New England Baseball Journal regional Division I power rankings. The Huskies had debuted in the outlet's preseason poll at No. 5 and have since held a top-two spot during every week, including three straight No. 1 rankings from March 5 through March 19.

• Northeastern trails, 63-52-1, during its all-time series against Rhode Island, which dates back to the Huskies' inaugural 1921 season.

• Northeastern is undefeated (3-0) during midweek games this season and is 2-0 against New England competition. Last week, the Huskies swept a pair of contests against Hartford (3-1) and Boston College (7-4), defeating the Eagles during a marathon, 18-inning affair.

• NU is coming off a four-game weekend series against No. 10 Texas Tech, during which the Huskies were unable to collect a victory. Both teams had entered the series ranked among the top 10 Division I programs in RPI.

• As per the March 25 RPI rankings, Northeastern leads all New England Division I programs at No. 16. Connecticut ranks not far behind at No. 20, while the next highest CAA team is College of Charleston at No. 31.

Charlie McConnell continues to lead the Huskies in batting average (.388) in addition to on-base percentage (.475) and stolen bases (12).

Jake Farrell has pounded a team high, 13 extra-base hits, for Northeastern and paces the squad in home runs (four) and RBIs (21). His 10 multi-hit games are also the most by an NU player this season.

Cam Walsh is riding an active, eight-game hit streak for the Huskies, which ranks as the third longest achieved by an NU player this season. McConnell's 11-game hitting streak to begin the season ranks as the longest (Feb. 16 to March 6).
• Northeastern has hit .276 during its three midweek games this season, combining to outscore its opponents, 19-10. The Huskies' pitchers have also combined to yield a 2.00 ERA across 36 midweek innings while striking out 22 batters, walking 11, and boasting a .203 opposing batting average.
