PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – With five players combining to swing 11 hits on Tuesday, including four hits that landed for extra bases, the Northeastern baseball team powered its way past Georgetown, 9-5, to win its fifth straight game and conclude its five-day stay at the 2018 Snowbird Classic with a perfect, 4-0 record.
Â
Max Burt and
Ian Fair both recorded three hits apiece for Northeastern (8-3), which left the Snowbird Classic with an undefeated record for the first time since 2013. Burt collected three RBIs during the course of the day, doubling in
Jake Farrell during the bottom of the third inning before putting the Huskies' lead out of reach with his two-RBI single during the eighth inning.
Â
Scott Holzwasser reached safely during each of his five plate appearances, tripling to leadoff the bottom of the sixth inning and also walking three times. Holzwasser scored three runs, two of which came off the bat of Farrell, who plated the NU second baseman on his third-inning, RBI triple and his sixth-inning sacrifice fly.
Â
Northeastern's freshman arms shared the workload on the mound for the Huskies.
Sam Jacobsak made his first collegiate start and allowed only one earned run through three innings of work, surrendering a third-inning home run to the Hoyas' Austin Shirley.
Â
Henry Ennen relieved Jacobsak midway through Northeastern's fourth-inning jam, which allowed Georgetown (0-10) to plate four runs to tie the game at 5-5. Ennen kept the Hoyas off the scoreboard during the fifth and sixth innings en route to earning his first career winning decision.
Â
Owen Batchelder pitched a scoreless seventh inning before
Kyle Angel took care of the final two innings, picking up his first career save.
Â
Northeastern struck first on
Charlie McConnell's two-RBI base hit during the bottom of the second inning and rallied for three more runs during the bottom of the third. After losing their 5-1 lead to Georgetown's four-run fourth inning, the Huskies answered back immediately, scoring the eventual game-winning run on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
