BOSTON – Coming off a sweep of its four games at the 2018 Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, the Northeastern baseball team will put its five-game winning streak on the line this weekend, when the Huskies head to Plainsman Park to contest a three-game series against No. 17 Auburn. The two programs will open on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. EST, before closing out the weekend with a pair of 2 p.m. EST games on Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Northeastern will be opposing Auburn for the first time during program history.

AGAINST THE SEC

The Huskies are 2-11 all-time against SEC competition, having collected their first and only wins earlier this season during Northeastern's four-game, neutral-site series against Missouri at City of Palms Park (Fort Myers, Florida).

Auburn will be the seventh program out of the SEC that the Huskies have faced through the years, while this weekend's three-game set will mark Northeastern's fourth multi-game series against the power conference, having previously opposed No. 23 Texas A&M (Feb. 2014), No. 12 South Carolina (Feb. 2015), and Missouri (Feb. 2018).

AGAINST RANKED FOES

Northeastern has won at least one game during each of its last two multi-game series against NCBWA ranked competition. Most recently, the Huskies opened the 2016 season with consecutive victories against No. 30 Oklahoma during a four-game set at L. Dale Mitchell Park, riding the starts of their two MLB Draft pitchers, Aaron Civale and Dustin Hunt. During Northeastern's 2015 Senior Week home stand against No. 15 College of Charleston, the Huskies won the opening game, 5-4, scoring the final three runs of the two team's five-run 10th inning courtesy of Rob Foneseca's walk-off, three-run homer.

HEADLINES

• Northeastern and Auburn will both enter this weekend's series riding winning streaks. The Huskies have won five start games, picking off the final game of their four-game series against Mizzouri before sweeping their four-game stay at the 2018 Snowbird Classic. Auburn has remained undefeated through its first 13 games of the season.

• While the Huskies are off to an 8-3 start to the regular-season – the program's best 11-game start since 2009 – the Tigers have started 13-0, matching their start to the 2001 season.

• NU continues to boast the best offense in the CAA (.299 batting average). The Huskies rank second in on-base percentage (.363), just slightly behind College of Charleston's first-place mark of .367.

• Junior sluggers Charlie McConnell and Jake Farrell are co-leading the way for Northeastern at the plate, both hitting above .400 during the first three weeks of the season. McConnell (.435 batting average) leads the Huskies in doubles (five) and stolen bases (eight), having scored 10 runs and notched seven RBIs. Farrell's season stat line includes a .422 batting average, four doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBIs.

• Left-hand ace Sean Mellen is having a standout start to the 2018 season, racking up three winning decisions during each of his three starts. Mellen has twice recorded double-digit strikeout totals, tossing 11 strikeouts against Creighton on Feb. 18 before upping his career-high count to 13 on March 4 during seven shutout innings against Villanova.

• Northeastern head coach Mike Glavine will be squaring off against a familiar face this weekend at Plainsman Park. Glavine's nephew, Peyton – son of Glavine's older brother and 305-win MLB pitcher, Tom – is a freshman left-hander on the Tigers.

UP NEXT

The Huskies will open their 2018 home calendar on Tuesday, March 13, when Northeastern kicks off its New England schedule against Hartford. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
