MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Ian Fair's RBI single during the third inning of Friday's series opener against College of Charleston turned out to be the only scoring play that the Northeastern baseball team was able to log against the talent of the Cougars' Evan Sisk and Carter Love as the Huskies were defeated, 4-1.

Max Burt went three-for-four to lead Northeastern (18-12, 5-2 CAA), which traded first place in the CAA standings with College of Charleston (26-9, 8-2 CAA). The NU shortstop tested the Cougars' middle infield during each of his three hits, sandwiching singles during the second and sixth innings around his fourth-inning double, which had caught the edge of Luke Manzo's reaching glove at shortstop and scooted towards the foul line.

Charlie McConnell sparked the Huskies' scoring inning with a two-out base hit followed by his 19th stolen base of the season. Advancing to third base on a passed ball, McConnell scored easily on Fair's RBI knock to right field, which brought Northeastern within two runs at the time (3-1).

Charleston made life difficult for Tyler Brown during the bottom of the first inning, loading the bases three batters into the game. Dupree Hart had led off with a single to center before Luke Morgan and Logan McRae each earned walks during extended plate appearances against the NU right-hander.

After receiving a free out courtesy of Danny Wondrack's infield fly, Bradley Dixon drove a two-RBI single to left field to put the Cougars in front first.

Charleston elevated its lead to 3-0 during the bottom of the second inning. Manzo belted a leadoff single and stole second base on Brown's strikeout of Ari Sechopoulos, later scoring on Hart's RBI groundout to shortstop.

In response to Fair's RBI single that had trimmed the Huskies' deficit to 3-1, Clay Hunt homered to lead off the Charleston half of the third inning, allowing the home team to regain its three-run advantage.

Brown lasted five innings for Northeastern, surrendering four runs on six hits while striking out two and walking five. Josh Winkler relieved Brown to start the sixth inning and tossed three shutout innings, scattering two hits.

Sisk improved to 7-2 upon receiving the winning decision for his six-inning effort that featured six strikeouts. Love picked up his fourth save of the season, keeping Northeastern hitless from the seventh inning on.
