BROOKLINE, Mass. – Racking up six scoring innings against Bryant on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, the Northeastern baseball team put the cherry on top of an undefeated, eight-game home stand as the Huskies took down the Bulldogs, 10-3, to win their 10th straight game and improve to 8-1 against New England opponents this season.
Â
Rookie arms
Sam Jacobsak and
Brandon Dufault combined to no-hit the visitors through six innings, firing three frames apiece. Jacobsak collected nine outs from the first 10 batters he faced and was helped out of the fourth inning by Dufault, who went on to strike out four batters and walk none as Northeastern (28-13) headed into the seventh inning with a 9-1 lead.
Â
Jake Farrell went two-for-three and scored a pair of runs for NU, providing the key hit that led to the Huskies' first inning run. With
Charlie McConnell aboard at second base following his program record-breaking, 70th career stolen base, Farrell singled McConnell up another 90 feet, setting the table for McConnell to score on
Max Burt's RBI groundout.
Â
Northeastern took advantage of Justin Snyder's errant throw during the bottom of the third inning, cashing in for three runs, two of which were unearned.
Â
After Farrell had placed his second hit of the game through the right side, moving
Ian Fair into scoring position, Snyder threw Burt's infield chopper wide of the bag at first base, allowing Fair to round third and put the Huskies in front, 2-0.
Ryan Solomon and
Scott Holzwasser followed with successive RBI groundouts as NU upped its edge to 4-0.
Despite Fair walking during three plate appearances on Wednesday, the redshirt-freshman went hitless, ending his program-record, 22-game hitting streak. However, the redshirt-freshman did successfully advance his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games.
Â
Michael Geaslen doubled to lead off the fourth inning for the Huskies, later scoring the first of his three runs when Fair drew a bases-loaded walk off Craig Lacey. NU tacked on another run during the inning at the expense of Farrell triggering the 6-4-3 double play that scored
Mason Koppens as the Huskies elevated their lead to 6-1.
Â
Koppens went on swat an RBI single during Northeastern's two-run fifth inning, finishing the day with his 13th multi-hit game of the season.Â
Â
Bryant (26-17-1) countered the Huskies' 9-1 lead with solitary runs during the seventh and eighth innings against
Henry Ennen and
Josh Winkler, who threw the game's final three innings to collect his first collegiate save.
Â
Jacobsak was awarded his second winning decision of the season via pitch count.
Â
Northeastern's 10-game winning streak marks the program's longest since the 2004 season, when the Huskies won 11 consecutive games. NU has now won 27 of its last 29 games at Friedman Diamond, including 13 of its 14 home games this season.
Wednesday marked Northeastern's first win against Bryant since its 2010 campaign.
