BOSTON
– Equipped with nine all-conference selections, a program record, 33 regular-season victories, and its second consecutive CAA regular-season championship, the top-seeded Northeastern baseball team will pursue its first-ever postseason title within the league this week at the 2018 CAA Baseball Championship, hosted by James Madison at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. With a first-round bye, NU will open the double-elimination tournament on Thursday, May 24, at 11 a.m., when the Huskies will compete in a semifinal game against the winner between fourth-seeded UNCW and fifth-seeded Delaware. All CAA tournament games will be broadcast live on CAA.tv.

POSTSEASON PURSUIT

Northeastern is seeking its first automatic bid to the NCAA tournament since 2003, when the Huskies won the America East postseason tournament, hosted by Vermont. NU is also viciously pursuing its first at-large bid to the NCAA tournament since 1973, when the Huskies were one of four teams selected to the championship's double-elimination District 1 (New England) regional.

HUSKIES IN THE CAA TOURNEY

Northeastern is 8-14 all-time in the CAA tournament and 4-6 under fourth-year head coach Mike Glavine. The Huskies' best CAA tournament finish is third place, which NU has attained on two occasions (2013, 2017).

AGAINST THE 2018 FIELD

NU went 9-5 against the 2018 CAA tournament field during the regular season, going 4-2 at Friedman Diamond and 5-3 on the road. The Huskies picked up a pair of multi-game sweeps against second-seeded Elon and fifth-seeded Delaware.

RECORD-BREAKING REGULAR SEASON

• Northeastern's 33 regular-season wins during 2018 rank as a program record, although the Huskies are still two victories shy of tying the school's single-season wins record (35), set during the 1991 and 1994 seasons.

• The Huskies' .739 winning percentage during CAA games (17-6) is the highest mark that NU has attained during its 13 seasons in the league.

• Northeastern is the first team to repeat as the outright CAA regular-season champion since UNCW, which won consecutive titles during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

• Senior shortstop Max Burt is the only player in program history to make at least 200 career appearances and record 200 or more hits at Northeastern. Burt, who continues to ride his career-opening streak of 217 consecutive games played, currently ranks seventh on the Huskies' all-time hits list (210) and needs two hits to tie Michael Foster (2012-15) for sixth place.

• Lefty closer Andrew Misiaszek is Northeastern's single-season saves leader (12), setting the record upon putting the finishing touches on the Huskies' regular-season finale that clinched NU its second straight title. This year, Misiaszek has accounted for 12 of the Northeastern bullpen's 20 saves, which collectively are the most that the Huskies have recorded during the program's CAA era (since 2006).

• Charlie McConnell is undoubtedly Northeastern's stolen base king. The junior speedster is in possession of both the Huskies' all-time (74) and single-season (34) records – his latter mark ranking in a tie for the third most among NCAA Division I players this year behind Army West Point's Jacob Hurtubise (39 steals).

• Sean Mellen (10-1) needs one win to set the program record for the most single-season victories. Mellen is currently tied with Peter Schultz, who won 10 games during the 1994 season.

• Jake Farrell needs one triple to tie his head coach, Mike Glavine, for the Northeastern single-season record. Glavine hit eight triples during his 1992 rookie season.
