BOSTON – Fourteen members of the Northeastern Huskies will compete in the NCAA East Regionals this weekend at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. In total, 14 Huskies will compete in Red and Black to vie for a spot in the NCAA Championships beginning on Friday. The top 12 athletes of their respective event will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 6 – 9.
Seven athletes will make their NCAA Regional debut, while seven will be returning for their second regional.
Sophomore
David Adams will make his second career appearance in the 400 meter hurdles after qualifying for the NCAA prelims in 2017. Adams enter with a seed time of 52.19 from the Northeast Challenge.
Senior
Sarah Adler heads to the NCAA East Regionals for the first time in her career with a time of 2:07.87 in the 800 meter. Sophomore
Erica Belvit will also compete in her first NCAA Regional, entering with a seed mark of 58.16 meters from the Jay Carisella Coaches Invite.
Long Jumper
Kyle Darrow will compete in his second NCAA Regional after qualifying in 2016. The senior holds the 10th best mark in the region with a jump of 7.97 meter at the Florida Relays. Darrow was most recently named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet after earning gold in the long jump, 100 meter and as a member of the 4x100 relay team.
Throwers
Ryan Kim and
Eric Mellusi will both represent the Huskies at the NCAA Regional. Kim will compete for the second time of his career in the shot put after posting a mark of 17.77 meters. Mellusi will head to the regionals for the first time with the 14th best mark in the regional, a mark of 57.66 meter in the discus.
Marc Rienas will be making his second appearance at the NCAA East Regionals. The sophomore will head to the regionals with a time of 1:49.29 in the 800 meter from the Ocean State Invitational. Distance runner
Kerri Ruffo will make her NCAA Regional debut this year in the 10,000 meter. The senior enter with a seed time of 35:09.70 from the Virginia Team Challenge.
Enter with the 12th-best mark in the East Region,
Paige Suse will be making her second NCAA postseason appearance. The junior posted a mark of 1.80 meters at the 2018 CAA Championship.
CAA Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet,
Patrice Williams, has qualified for her second NCAA Regional. The junior will compete in the 200 and 400 meter, enter with a time of 23.52 in the 200 meter and 53.19 in the 400 meter.
Rounding out the individual competitors,
Brooke Wojeski will be competing in her first NCAA East Regional, entering with a seed time of 10:26.37 in the 300 meter steeplechase.
One Husky relay team will head to Florida to compete in the NCAA Regional. The 4x100 relay team of
Kyle Darrow,
Naukym Morton,
Dametrius O'Connor and
Donatien Djero qualified for the event with a time of 39.77 at the Northeastern Challenge.
