BROOKLINE, Mass. – Freshman Ryan Massoud scored two goals to lead the Northeastern men's soccer team (1-0-0) to a 3-0 victory over Niagara (0-1-0) in the regular season opener on Friday night at Parsons Field.

After a scoreless first half, Massoud recorded his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute, just moments after entering the match as a substitute. Adama Kaba set up the play with a cross from the right wing that found Massoud in the center of the box for a nifty, toe-poke finish at the back post.

Just 13 minutes later, Harry Swartz gained possession in the midfield and played a through-ball up the right wing to a cutting Massoud, who held off a defender and blasted a shot by the Niagara keeper from 16 yards out for his second goal of the night.

The Huskies continued to pressure the Purple Eagles and eventually went ahead 3-0 when Jacob Marin-Thomson's cross deflected off a Niagara defender and into the net for an own goal in the 79th minute.

Northeastern held an 18-6 shot advantage in the match, including a 10-1 count in shots on target.

Sophomore goalkeeper Noah Abrams collected his first collegiate clean-sheet with one save in the match.

The Howlin' Huskies return to action on Monday at LIU Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
