BURLINGTON, Vt. – Battling from behind during the second half of Friday's match at Vermont, the Northeastern men's soccer team caught an equalizing penalty kick goal from
Moustapha Samb early and managed to force extra time against the Catamounts, despite the Huskies ultimately conceding eight minutes in and receiving the 2-1 defeat.
Â
Exiting halftime a goal down, Northeastern (1-2-0) relied on its counter attack to generate its equalizing chance. Seven minutes into the period,
Harry Swartz made a convincing run up the left sideline, slicing his two defenders before drawing a penalty, moments after he had crossed into the 18-yard box.
Â
Samb converted the ensuing penalty kick by threading his low strike off the left netting. The goal marked Samb's second career goal and his first since Sept. 13, 2017, at Harvard.
Â
Vermont (2-1-0) took advantage of its attacking opportunities, charting a 24-8 edge in total attempts, despite only producing six shots on target. Justin Freitas put the Catamounts on top, 1-0, during the 23rd minute, while Trevor Colazzo netted the match-winner during the 98th minute.
