BOSTON– Earning a bye into the quarterfinal round of the CAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season, the Northeastern men's basketball is ready to begin action at the Championships when they will face No. 10 UNCW on Sunday night at 6 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Huskies have won 13 of their last 15 games this season and are on a four-game win-streak heading into their CAA opener.

Here is what you need to know about Sunday's game:

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Honoring the Best

  • For the second-straight season, his second season as a Husky, Vasa Pusica earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team, while Jordan Roland, in his first season with Northeastern, was named to the All-CAA Third Team
  • Pusica becomes the eighth Husky to earn multiple First-Team All-Conference honors and just the third Husky during the CAA Era (see table to the right)

First-Team All-Conference

Pete Harris 1980, 81
Mark Halsel 1982, 83, 84
Reggie Lewis 1985, 86, 87

CAA
Matt Janning 2009, 10
Chaisson Allen 2010, 11
Vasa Pusica 2018, 19

  • This also marks the sixth time during the CAA era that multiple Huskies have been named to an All-Conference team

  1. Lucky Number 20

  • Northeastern picked up its 20th victory of the season at Drexel on Saturday afternoon
  • The win would helped Northeastern to back-to-back 20 win seasons (23-10 in 2017-18), the fifth 20-win season in the Bill Coen Era and 16th in program history
  • It also marked the first time two Coen-led teams recorded 20 wins in back-to-back seasons and the first time the Huskies have tallied back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1985-86, 86-87
  • Other Coen-era 20-win seasons include:

Season Record CAA Finish Postseason
2018-19 20-10 14-4 2nd --
Seniors: Anthony Green, Jeremy Miller, Vasa Pusica
2017-18 22-9 14-4 T-1st --
      Seniors: Devon Begley
2014-15  23-12 12-6 T-1st NCAA 1st Rd

  • Coen's five 20-win seasons ranks in a tie for first in Northeastern coaching history with Jim Calhoun's five such efforts (1980-81, 81-82, 83-84, 84-85, 85-86)
  • The 20 regular season wins in back-to-back seasons by Bill Coen marks the first time a single coach has achieved the feat since Jim Calhoun, who did so in 1980-81/1981-82

  1. Numbah Two

  • For the second-straight season the Huskies will head into the CAA tournament as the two-seed
  • Locking down the two seed means the Huskies have earned a bye in the CAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season and will begin action on Sunday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
  • Northeastern will face the as yet to be determined winner of the No. 7 Elon/No. 10 UNCW game
