BOSTON – Despite rallying from two sets down on Tuesday to force a decisive fifth set against New Hampshire, the Northeastern women's volleyball team was unable to complete its comeback effort as the Huskies lost an entertaining home opener at Cabot Center (25-22, 26-24, 16-25, 20-25, 15-11).

Northeastern (4-3) held the edge in nearly every statistical category, sporting the 65-60 advantage in total kills and the 70-58 margin in total digs. As a team, the Huskies hit .238 against the Wildcats' .212 clip, playing level with UNH in both aces (6-6) and blocks (9-9).

Athena Ardila and
Brianna Daphnis led Northeastern with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Natalie Shollin recorded five blocks in addition to landing nine kills against one error on 17 attacks (hit .471).

Two Huskies also earned their first collegiate double-doubles:
Liz Carroll paired 25 assists with 14 digs while
Evelyn Gonzalez matched 11 kills with 10 digs.

Northeastern burst out to the 6-2 lead during the opening set and regained a four-point lead at 12-8 before New Hampshire (6-2) used a timeout to recalibrate its game plan. The Wildcats proceeded to win 11 of the next 15 points prior to siding out with the Huskies down the stretch.

Kills by Ardila and
Nailah Jenkins bookended a three-point run for Northeastern midway through the second set, drawing NU level with UNH at 11-11. Siding out to 15-15 and 19-19, the Huskies executed consecutive block assists to build a 22-20 advantage, despite the Wildcats receiving three late kills from Kennedi Smith to steal the two-set lead, 26-24.

Northeastern battled back during the third and fourth sets, during which the Huskies hit .387 and .333, respectively.

The Huskies erased an early 9-5 deficit during the third set, spurring a four-point run to shoot ahead, 15-12, and close by winning the set's final five points.
Samantha Shupe set two NU kills during Northeastern's 4-0 statement to open the fourth set, setting the foundation for the Huskies' 19 kills and 25-20 victory.

After changing ends during the fifth set with UNH leading, 8-4, Northeastern rattled off four straight points to knot the match. The Huskies pulled even again at 10-10, despite winning just one of the set's final six points.
