Top-Ranked Northeastern Looks to Win Fourth Straight Hockey East Championship

BOSTON -
 The No. 1 seed, Northeastern women's hockey (19-1-1), takes on the No. 3 seed, Providence (12-6-1), in the Hockey East Championship game to determine the winner of the 2021 Bertagna Trophy and an automatic berth into the National Championship Tournament. Puck drop inside Matthews Arena will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday aired live on NESN with streaming available via College Sports Live. 

NORTHEASTERN SEEKS FOURTH STRAIGHT HOCKEY EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
The Huskies are seeking their fourth consecutive Hockey East tournament title and are riding a 14-game winning streak in the conference postseason. Northeastern is striving to become the third school in Hockey East history to win four straight titles, joining New Hampshire (2006-09) and Boston University (2012-15). Head Coach Dave Flint set a new league record with his 26th win in Hockey East tournament play in just 34 games. Aerin Frankel set a new all-time Hockey East tournament record with her 14th win against UConn in the semifinals. Northeastern's senior class of Aerin Frankel, Skylar Fontaine, Brooke Hobson, Katie Cipra, Tessa Ward, Veronika Pettey and Lauren MacInnis have never lost a league tournament game.

HUSKIES NO. 1 IN THE COUNTRY FOR FIRST TIME
After boasting the nation's top unbeaten streak at 18, Northeastern earned its first-ever No. 1 billing on Monday in the USCHO Poll. The top-ranked Huskies are currently riding a 19-game unbeaten streak (18-0-1), including 14 straight wins in the Hockey East tournament, seeking their fourth consecutive Hockey East championship. No. 1 Northeastern enters this matchup proceeding a victorious semifinal game against the University of Connecticut (2-1) and after not giving up more than one goal in 13 consecutive contests. The Huskies have previously played 21 games with junior Alina Mueller leading the team at 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists), Skylar Fontaine has notched 10 goals and 13 helpers while Chloé Aurard has tallied 14 goals and 11 helpers for the Huskies this season. 

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence comes into the championship game after two strong wins in the Hockey East Tournament against Boston College (4-3), and Maine (1-0) to advance them into the championship game. Sara Hjalmarsson leads the team in points with 17 (five goals, 12 assists) while Caroline Peterson adds seven goals and seven assists to the books. Defending the net for the Friars, Sandra Abstreiter holds a 1.89 GAA this season and a .930 save pct. as they head into their third post-season game. Northeastern holds a 34-32-2 record against Providence and a 3-1 record during postseason play. The No. 1 ranked Huskies are currently playing on a four-game unbeaten streak against the Friars.
