No. 8 Northeastern Opens Hockey East Slate Against Vermont

BOSTON - The No. 8 Northeastern men's hockey team (1-0-0) will welcome the Vermont Catamounts for a pair of games at Matthews Arena this weekend. Game one will take place on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and the weekend will conclude Saturday night at 7 p.m. Friday night's matchup against the Catamounts will be the 76th time the two teams have met.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. RAISE 'EM UP: During Friday's game, Northeastern will honor the Men's ice hockey team by adding another banner to their rafters after a historic season in 2021-22. Under the direction of Hockey East Coach of the Year, Jerry Keefe, the huskies won the Hockey East regular season title for the first time in program history. The men's program finished with an impressive 15-8-1 conference record en route to their first NCAA bid since the 2019 season.
2. FRESHMAN FEVER: The true freshman Cam Lund had a two-point night (1g, 1a) in his debut game at Northeastern last Saturday. Lund is the first freshman to have a multiple-point night in his debut since Steven Agriogianis in 2020-21 who recorded three points (2g, 1a) in his first career game against Merrimack on Dec. 12, 2020. In his first career game as well, true freshman Vinny Borgesi scored the breakaway game-winning goal to give the Huskies the 3-2 victory. The last Husky to pot a game winner was senior captain Aidan McDonough last season at Boston University for a 1-0 victory on Nov. 19, 2021.
3. FACEOFF FRENZY: In game one, Northeastern finished with a .559 faceoff percentage against the Sharks, winning 33 of 59. After week one, Northeastern's faceoff percentage sits at number ten in the NCAA. Sophomores Jack Hughes and Justin Hryckowian led the Huskies in the faceoff circle, both in opportunities and win percentage. Hughes went 7-for-11 for a .636 win percentage, while Hryckowian recorded a .565 win percentage after going 13-for-23.
