Northeastern Swim and Dive Host URI For Family & Friends Day

BOSTON, Mass. — Following a three-week break from the pool, the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team (1-0) returns for a meet against the Rhode Island Rams (1-0) on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Barletta Natatorium for Family & Friends Day. The action begins at 1 p.m. (EST) and will be available to stream on FloCollege.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies started the 2024 season with a trip north to take on the Vermont Catamounts. They took a 176-124 victory after securing eight first-place finishes, including two victories from freshman Delaney Alonso in the 50 and 100-yard backstroke and senior captain Hannah Seward in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly. Graduate student Emily Gjertsen came in first place in the 1000 freestyle, while junior Elisabeth Bendall took victory in the 50-yard breaststroke.
  2. HEIGHT DOESN'T MATTER: Reigning CAA Diver of the Year Erin Murphy also impressed in the season opener at Vermont, securing first-place finishes in the 1M (258.83) and 3M (260.85) diving events to help give the Huskies the team win. Her efforts crowned her the CAA Women's Diver of the Week on Oct. 8, the first of this season and sixth of her career.
  3. SCOUTING THE RAMS: Rhode Island travels to Boston after beating Siena College 181-114 this past weekend to open their season. The last time both teams met was in 2022 when the Huskies took an emphatic 260-92 victory over the Rams. Junior Anna Verlander, junior Marcela Scaramuzza, and Seward won in the 400-yard medley two years ago, while Murphy won in the 1M and 3M diving events.
After this weekend, the Northeastern women's swim and dive team will take on MIT and Harvard in a dual meet at the Zesiger Center Pool on Friday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m.
