BOSTON — The Northeastern men's and women's cross country teams begin a three-week stretch of races, starting with the 50th annual Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, on Saturday, Oct. 5, on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The men's team kicks off the afternoon with an 8k race at 11:00 a.m. before the women's team starts their 6k race at 11:45 a.m.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- HEY PAUL! — The Huskies return to Bethlehem, Pa. for the first time in five years, with this weekend being the second time the cross country team has competed in the event. Northeastern will look to improve its previous attempt at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, as they took 31st out of 45 teams in 2019. This will also be the first time the women's team has competed at the Paul Short Invitational.
- LIGHTS. CAA-MERA. ACTION! — The Huskies are coming off an impressive week of running, sweeping the most recent CAA XC Runner of the Week Awards on Sept. 24, when graduate student Tessa McClain took victory at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, and freshman Tim Rank earned seventh place to lead the men's team.
- WEEK TWO RANKINGS — The women's team moved up the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings following their impressive second-place performance at UMass Dartmouth, climbing to 6th in the Northeast Region. The men's team also continues to hold down a top ten place in the Northeast Region, sitting eighth for the third straight week. Both teams remain the top-ranked CAA team in the country.
After this weekend's race, Northeastern will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 12, for the New England Championships.
