BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Graduate student Abigail Hassman earned a top-five finish, and senior Benjamin Godish set a new personal best on the 8k course, as the Northeastern Huskies women's cross country team took fifth overall, while the men finished 24th at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, Saturday afternoon.
Women
- In her first race of the 2024 season, Hassman led the women's Huskies on the 6k race course, crossing the line in third with a mark of 20:01.5.
- The Huskies recorded three top-20 finishers, scoring a 231 to earn fifth place.
- Graduate student Ava Duggan finished 11th with a time of 20:18.8, crushing her previous personal best in the 6k by 28 seconds.
- Graduate student Azza Borovicka-Swanson rounded out the top 20 finishers for the Huskies, recording a time of 20:32.2 to take 17th overall.
- Graduate student Lena Lebrun earned a top 100 finish, crossing the finish line in 93rd and setting a new personal best of 21:20.7.
- Senior Nicole Dunbury was the next Husky to finish, recording a new personal best of 21:31.9 to take 114th, while sophomore Keira Gamily earned 137th with a time of 21:43.0. Senior Vivian McMahon rounded out the top seven for Northeastern with a 21:49.9 mark to finish 155th.
Men
- Godish took home 13th on the 8k race course, setting a new personal best of 23:50.5 to lead the men's Huskies.
- The men's team took 24th overall on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, recording a team score of 699.
- The Sarney brothers were the next to cross the finish line for Northeastern, starting with senior Kyle Sarney (24:42.8), who broke his 8k personal best by 38 seconds to earn 94th. Sophomore Ryan Sarney followed with a 205th place finish and a new personal best time of 25:26.8.
- Junior Patrick Cantlon finished 216th with a 25:30.1 mark, followed by senior Noah Mooney (25:31.8) and freshman Ryan Leslie (25:36.1) who took 221st and 232nd.
- Graduate student Tyler Brogan rounded out the men's top seven with a 245th place finish and time of 25:42.1.
Northeastern Huskies cross country returns to the race course next weekend, as they compete at the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 12.
