HOPKINTON, N.H. — Following a historic day at the CAA Championships, the Northeastern men's and women's cross country focus their attention on the NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regional, held at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds, on Friday, Nov. 15. THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- A DAY TO REMEMBER — The men's and women's Huskies made history at the CAA Championships two weeks ago, individually and as a team. Graduate student Abigail Hassman ran to her third CAA Championships, becoming the first women's runner in CAA history to reach that accomplishment. Senior Benjamin Godish also took home an individual championship in Elon, crossing the line in first to take home his second straight title, the second Husky and the tenth runner in conference history to win multiple CAA cross-country individual championships. The women claimed their first-ever championships as a team after collecting 44 points, with four of the five runners earning All-CAA honors.
- REGIONALS REWIND — The Huskies impressed at the Northeast Regionals last season, as Hassman and Godish earned top 10 finishes to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Hassman also set a new school record in the 6k after running a time of 19:57.5. Both runners were named to the NCAA Northeast All-Region Team, along with graduate student Azza Borovicka-Swanson, who finished 25th with a time of 20:30.0.
- FINAL RANKINGS BEFORE NATIONALS—The Northeastern women's cross-country team continues to make a mark in the region. After taking home their first-ever CAA cross-country team championship, they held onto 6th place in the USTFCCCA DI Women's Cross Country Regional Rankings, remaining the highest-ranked CAA team in the country.
After Friday, Northeastern will look forward to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23, held in Madison, Wisconsin.
