BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team (8-4) returns home to New England for its next seven games, including a two-game midweek home stand against the Sacred Heart Pioneers (3-9) and the Bryant Bulldogs (5-7) on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12 and 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Friedman Diamond in Brookline. Both games will stream on FloBaseball.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. WE'RE COMING HOME
The Huskies return to New England after playing the first four weekends on the road - NU won three of its four weekend series to open up the season, and return with an 8-4 record, which marks the fourth season in the last five where the Huskies hold a winning record entering their first home game. 8-4 is the second-best record in that stretch, with the Huskies returning home after their season-opening road trip 10-3 in 2023. NU also returned home from that stretch 9-5 in 2020 before the cancelation of the season.
2. THE BASH BROTHERS
In last week's four games, first baseman
Tyler MacGregor and designated hitter
Alex Lane each slugged over .875 with four home runs combined and 18 RBIs as the Huskies took down Georgia Tech in a midweek and won the series at Old Dominion winning games two and three of the weekend. MacGregor led the way with a .533 batting average (8-for-15), belting three doubles, notching seven RBIs, which included a two-HR day in Atlanta against the Yellow Jackets. Lane followed suit with two home runs of his own in the ODU series, including a three-run shot to right field in the series-deciding game on Sunday, on Northeastern's way to a 17-9 victory. Lane was 3-for-3 with six RBIs by the end of the third inning, and finished the week 7-for-16 (.438) with a team-high 11 RBI.
3. SCOUTING THE PIONEERS / BULLDOGS
The Pioneers come into the midweek with a 3-9 record, their wins coming off of William & Mary in the Central Virginia Classic, and a double header sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson to open up conference play last weekend. It'll be the first meeting of the two teams since 2011, where SHU took a 6-3 victory in an early-season neutral site game.
The Bulldogs enter the midweeks red hot after a weekend sweep of Iona at home. They've played their last four games at home in Smithfield, R.I. and took victories in all four games, winning their midweek with Merrimack last Wednesday. Prior to traveling to Brookline on Wednesday, Bryant will wrap up its own home stand hosting Stonehill on Tuesday. The Huskies and Bulldogs missed their annual meeting last season as NU's home opener against Bryant was rained out. The two teams split the season series 1-1 in 2022.
After the midweeks, the Huskies will face the Rhode Island Rams this weekend in a home-and-home series Friday through Sunday, March 15-17 - Friday's and Sunday's game will take place at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, R.I., and Saturday's game will be played at Friedman Diamond.Â
