Northeastern Tallies 19 Hits In Series Opening Win Against Monmouth

BROOKLINE, Mass. – In game one of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (19-6, 3-1 CAA) took down the Monmouth Hawks (7-13, 3-1 CAA) by a score of 14-3 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

After trailing 2-0 entering the second inning, the Huskies scored in every inning from the second to the eighth, while the defense blanked the Hawks in seven of the nine innings. Alex Lane had a 3-for-3 afternoon with another home run, his ninth of the season, and three more RBIs. Jack Goodman also collected three hits on the day in his return to the lineup.

The win was Head Coach Mike Glavine's 289th career win, which surpassed John "Tinker" Connelly for the second-most wins in program history.
  • Monmouth took an early 2-0 lead in in the first inning on an RBI single through the left side.
  • The Huskies tied the game up in the bottom of the second on a two-RBI single by Ryan Gerety, the first RBIs of his career in just his second career start.
  • After another Monmouth RBI base hit to retake the lead in the third, the Huskies surged for two more runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-3. Runs came from Alex Lane scoring Luke Beckstein on an RBI sac-fly, and Tyler Macgregor stealing home during a rundown.
  • The Huskies continued their scoring streak with two more in the fourth on a steal of home by Carmelo Musacchia followed by a solo home run from Gregory Bozzo.
  • Northeastern hung three runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Musacchia and Cam Maldonado, and an RBI double from Bozzo.
  • Lane added two more RBIs in the sixth on a two-run homer, scoring Beckstein.
  • The scoring ended in the seventh after another RBI base knock for Gerety, an infield miscue from the Hawks that allowed Maldonado to score from third, and an RBI single to right field by Lane.
  • Starting pitcher Jake Gigliotti (W, 3-1) worked six strong innings allowing just three runs, two of them earned, on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three.
  • Out of the bullpen it was scoreless appearances from Will Jones (2.0, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K) and Ryan Gerety (1.0, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K) to wrap up the game defensively.
  • It's the 10th win of the season for Northeastern when scoring 10 or more runs in a game, and their third straight conference win.
  • The Huskies tallied 19 hits in the game, a new season-high.

The two teams continue their series on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Friedman Diamond. All CAA baseball games stream on FloBaseball.
