Philips Named Top-10 Finalist For Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—  Fifth year goaltender Gwyneth Philips of the No. 13 Northeastern women's hockey team has been named a Top-10 Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award – presented annually to the top player in Division I women's ice hockey – as announced Thursday by USA Hockey.

Philips has now been named a Top-10 Finalist for two straight seasons. This marks the sixth year in a row the Huskies have had at least one Top-10 Finalist. Northeastern has had a goaltender finish in the Top-10 for five straight years, which breaks the previous record also held by the Huskies of most consecutive years with a goaltender in the Top-10 from 2001-04 (Erika Silva 2001, Chanda Gunn 2002-04). Philips is the only goaltender to be named a Top-10 finalist this season.

The Athens, Ohio native owns a 1.19 goals against average and .953 save percentage on the season. Among goaltenders with at least 20 games played, Philips has played in 36, she leads the nation in GAA and save percentage. Philips has allowed one goal or less in 26 of her 36 starts this year. Her six shutouts on the season rank tied for the third-best mark in the NCAA.

Philips owns a career .958 save percentage, the best mark in NCAA history.  She is the active career NCAA leader in save percentage (.958), goals against average (.97) and shutouts (22).

In addition to being a Top-10 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist, Philips was named Hockey East's Goaltender of the Year, a Hockey East First Team All-Star, Hockey East's Three Star Award winner, a National Goalie of the Year Semifinalist, the Bertagna Award winner (Beanpot top goalie), a seven-time Hockey East Goaltender of the Week and a three-time Hockey East Goaltender of the Month.

Philips is part of a group of 12 Northeastern players that have been named Patty Kazmaier Top-10 Finalists in the past. The group includes Maureen Murphy (2023), Aerin Frankel (2020, 2021, 2022), Skylar Fontaine (2021, 2022), Alina Mueller (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), Kendall Coyne Schofield (2013, 2015, 2016), Florence Schelling (2012), Chanda Gunn (2002, 2003, 2004), Brooke Whitney (2002), Erika Silva (2001), Stephanie Acres (1998) and Hilary Witt (1998, 1999, 2000).

Frankel (2021), Coyne Schofield (2016) and Whitney (2002) are the only players in program history to win the prestigious award.

Over the coming days, three of the Top-10 Patty Kazmaier candidates will be identified as finalists by a selection committee comprised of NCAA Division I women's hockey head coaches, media members and representatives from USA Hockey.
