BROOKLINE, Mass. — In the opening game of a highly-touted weekend series between the Northeastern Huskies (27-9) and the UNCW Seahawks (22-14), the Seahawks jumped out to an early lead and earned an 11-5 win.
- The Seahawks got after it early, notching a four-run first and holding NU to just one hit through the first four innings.
- By the sixth inning, UNCW had built an 11-0 lead and the Huskies were in the largest deficit of the season to date. This was just the third game a team had scored more than 10 runs against NU.
- Starter Jake Gigliotti earned just the second loss of his career and the Huskies had scoreless outings from relievers Nick Coniglio, James Morice and Hayden Smith all of whom went an inning each.
- The Huskies pushed across five runs in the ninth as junior Mike Sirota singled home a run and senior Alex Lane plated two on a single. Freshman Chris Walsh also scampered home on a wild pitch to score his first collegiate run.
The Huskies and Seahawks will meet again Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. on Youth Day at Friedman Diamond.
