Huskies Down Minutemen, Earn Baseball Beanpot Championship Spot

BROOKLINE, Mass. – In the semifinals of the Baseball Beanpot at Friedman Diamond, the Northeastern Huskies (22-6) defeated the UMass Minutemen (8-15) by a score of 12-1 in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon.

The Huskies took the lead in the first and never relinquished it, with six runs in the opening three innings, and six more in the fifth to end the game early via run rule. The CAA RBI leader, Alex Lane, continued his huge spring with another four RBIs, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Northeastern also got two RBIs each from Jack Doyle (2-for-4, 2B), Harrison Feinberg (2-for-4, 2 2B), and Gregory Bozzo (2-for-3, HR).

  • Northeastern got off to the early lead with a one-out single from Tyler MacGregor followed by a two-run homer by Alex Lane to left-center to lead 2-0.
  • After a bases-loaded situation produced a run for the Minutemen in the second, the Huskies responded in the bottom of the inning with a sac-fly from Lane to make it 3-1.
  • The Huskies got some insurance in the third inning from Harrison Feinberg with an RBI double, scoring Jack Goodman, and Gregory Bozzo belted a two-run home run to left field, scoring Cam Maldonado after he drew a walk, to lead 6-1.
  • NU put the game away in the fifth with a six-run inning, with RBIs coming from Luke Beckstein, Alex Lane, Jack Goodman, Jack Doyle and Harrison Feinberg.
  • James Quinlivan earned his third career win and his first since 2021 when he entered the game in the fourth inning and recorded the Huskies' first 1-2-3 inning of the day for the Northeastern defense. He worked 2.0 innings allowing no runs, hits, or walks, with one strikeout.
  • The bullpen also got scoreless appearances from Nick Coniglio (1.0, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K) and James Morice (1.0, 1BB, 3K) who struck out the side in the top of the seventh to end the game.

The Huskies head on the road for their next CAA series beginning this Friday, April 5 at Towson. After returning from Maryland, the Huskies will face the winner of this afternoon's other semifinal, Harvard or Boston College, next Tuesday, April 9 at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton.
