TOWSON, Md. – In game one of their three-game weekend set, the Northeastern Huskies (23-6, 6-1 CAA) defeated the Towson Tigers (7-21, 2-5 CAA) by a score of 11-1 on Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
The Huskies held a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning before pulling away with nine runs total in the final four innings of play.
Tyler MacGregor and
Alex Lane each tallied three hits on the day. MacGregor drove in three runs, Lane drove in two.
- Northeastern took an early lead after a lead off single from Luke Beckstein and a one-out RBI double from Alex Lane made it 1-0.
- The Tigers responded with one run on three hits in the bottom of the inning to tie it back up, 1-1.
- After both teams were held scoreless in the second and third innings, the Huskies retook the lead in the fourth on a two-out solo home run by Jack Doyle, his third of the year, to make it 2-1.
- The Huskies plated four in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 6-1. The Huskies loaded the bases and scored the first run of the inning as Beckstein was hit by a pitch.
- It was Beckstein's 18th time getting plunked this season, which set a new single season program record, surpassing Scott Holzwasser's 2019 mark.
- The next two batters both notched RBI singles, as Tyler MacGregor brought in two, and Alex Lane brought in one to make it 6-1.
- Back to back bases-loaded walks to Beckstein and MacGregor in the top of the seventh scored Mike Sirota and Gregory Bozzo for the seventh and eighth NU runs of the game.
- Doyle notched his second RBI of the day in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly, scoring Jack Goodman from third to make it 9-1.
- The Huskies tacked on two more in the ninth on a bases loaded walk, followed by a double play that brought the runner home from third.
- Starting pitcher Jake Gigliotti allowed just one run on five hits in his five innings of work, earning his fourth win of the season.
- Out of the bullpen, Will Jones worked three scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks, striking out two.
- Joseph Hauser came in for the bottom of the ninth and got three quick outs on just 12 pitches to end the contest
- It was the fourth CAA win of the season, and 12th win overall on the year, in which the Huskies plated 10 or more runs.
- The win was Northeastern's ninth in a row, and sixth in a row in conference play.
Game two of the weekend series takes place on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. and wraps up Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. Saturday's game will not be streamed, Sunday's game will be back on FloBaseball.
