MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – In game two of the weekend series, Northeastern University (34-14, 15-8 CAA) fell to the College of Charleston (35-12, 17-5 CAA) by a score of 18-5 on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point.
- Northeastern struck first with an RBI single from Alex Lane in the top of the first, scoring Luke Beckstein from second base.
- The Cougars answered back with an RBI double of their own, followed by a bases-loaded hit by pitch to lead 2-1.
- In the second, the Huskies retook the lead after a two-out rally started by free bases to Jack Goodman (HBP) and Cam Maldonado (walk) flipped the lineup to the top of the order. Luke Beckstein hit a bloop to second base, reaching on a fielder's choice as the attempted tag on Maldonado running to second was dropped, and Goodman continued on home on the error, tying the game.
- After the error, back to back RBI singles from Mike Sirota and Tyler MacGregor scored Maldonado and Beckstein to make it 4-2.
- Charleston got one back on an RBI double in the third, and took the lead in the fourth on three straight RBI base hits.
- The Cougars put up another crooked number on an unearned three-run home run in the fifth, and tallied two more in the sixth on a two-RBI double.
- Alex Lane continued to produce at the plate with a two-out solo shot to center field in the seventh, but couldn't spark a rally as the inning ended shortly after. Lane would finish the day 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
