Huskies Tally Eight Home Runs Against UConn, Win 18-3

BROOKLINE, Mass – In their home midweek finale, the Northeastern Huskies (33-13) defeated the UConn Huskies (27-20) by a score of 18-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond in seven innings, sweeping the season series against the other Huskies.

First baseman Tyler MacGregor was 3-for-3 with three home runs by the third inning, finishing the day 4-for-4 with five RBIs. The Huskies had six home runs in the opening three innings, finishing with eight on the day, the most in the modern era of Northeastern Baseball. Mike Sirota also belted two homers in the contest, along with Jack Goodman (grand slam), Cam Maldonado (3-run) and Gregory Bozzo (solo).
  • Northeastern hung a crooked number in the first inning as Luke Beckstein led off with a walk and Mike Sirota launched a home run to left field to give NU a 2-0 lead.
  • The next batter, Tyler MacGregor, hit a deep solo shot to right-center field to make it 3-0.
  • UConn answered back in the top of the second with a solo home run, to cut the lead back down to two.
  • NU exploded for five runs in the second inning with home runs from Cam Maldonado, Sirota, and MacGregor. Maldonado's did the most damage with Chris Walsh and Gregory Bozzo on base via walk and single respectively.
  • In the third, two more home runs left the yard for Northeastern starting with Gregory Bozzo with a line drive solo shot over the left field wall, and Tyler MacGregor launching his third of the day over the right field press box to lead 12-2.
  • The Huskies added a 13th run in the bottom of the fourth on a bases-loaded double play ball that scored Jack Goodman from third.
  • In the fifth it was a bases-loaded wild pitch that scored Mike Sirota from third to make it 14-2, and after a walk to Matt Brinker it was Jack Goodman belting Northeastern's second grand slam of the season to lead 18-2.
  • Opener Michael Gemma worked two near-perfect innings to start the game, allowing just one earned run on a solo home run and striking out three batters. He moves to 4-0 on the year.
  • Out of the bullpen with three strong innings was Aiven Cabral, allowing just one run on two hits, striking out one.
  • Working the top of the sixth and seventh innings was Jake Gigliotti and Brett Dunham respectively. Gigliotti allowed one run on three hits, with a strikeout, while Dunham worked a 1-2-3 inning to close out the game.
  • It's the most home runs in a game by Northeastern since at least 2010 – the Huskies had a six-home run game last season against Indiana State, and in 2021 against Towson.
  • The Huskies sweep the season series with UConn, and grab their first home victory over the other Huskies since 1996, where NU won 8-7.

The Huskies head back on the road this weekend to face the College of Charleston at Patriots Point starting this Friday, May 10 at 4 p.m. on FloBaseball.
