McClain Takes Victory At UMass Dartmouth For Women, Men Place Three In Top 50

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Graduate student Tessa McClain took victory in the 5k race to propel the women's team to a second-place finish, while the men's team claimed seventh at the UMass Dartmouth Invite on the Robert Dowd cross country course Saturday afternoon.
 
Women
  • The women's team scored a 44 to earn second place, five points behind Brown, who finished first.
  • McClain led all Huskies on the day, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:31.99 to set a new personal best. The Massachusetts native broke her previous record by 12 seconds.
  • Sophomore Keira Gamily (6th) and graduate student Lena Lebrun (7th) followed close behind, finishing within .06 seconds of each other. Gamily clocked a mark of 17:50.29, a new personal best, while Lebrun recorded a time of 17:50.35.
  • Senior Nicole Dunbury rounded out the top ten with a time of 17:56.60.
  • Senior Vivian McMahon grabbed a top-20 finish, crossing the line in 18th with an 18:12.52 mark, while freshman Emily Wickard (18:24.61) and graduate student Stephanie Kriss (18:35.50) earned 29th place and 33rd place, respectively.
Men
  • The men's team claimed seventh in the 8k race after recording a team score of 203.
  • Freshman Timothy Rank was the highest finishing Husky for the men, grabbing 9th with a time of 25:13.48.
  • Freshman teammate Ryan Leslie took 22nd with a 25:28.75 mark, and freshman Jack Mattingly rounded out the top 50 with a time of 25:57.12.
  • Freshmen Jacob Redman (67th) and Nico Boyle (79th) recorded times of 26:15.39 and 26:25.69 in their first 8k race.
  • Sophomore Ryan Gruczka and freshman Cian Gara Grady rounded out the men's top seven at 26:40.76 and 27:28.70.
Next, Northeastern will travel to Pennsylvania on Saturday, Oct. 5, for the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University.
