AMESBURY, Mass. – Senior
Vinny Borgesi and junior
Lawton Zacher of the No. 14 Northeastern men's hockey team earned weekly honors from Hockey East as announced on Monday. Borgesi was tabbed as the Army ROTC Defender of the Week, while Zacher claimed Hockey East Player of the Week.
Borgesi earns his second league honor of the season after registering two points in as many games in a weekend sweep over No. 11/10 Boston College. The defenseman scored the game-winning goal at Conte Forum in game one, then picked up an assist on the game-winner at Matthews Arena in game two. In addition, Borgesi chipped in seven blocked shots, posted a plus-four rating and collected four shots on goal across the pair of contests.
Zacher tabs his second consecutive weekly accolade from Hockey East, earning the recognition after a commanding weekend that featured two wins over No. 11/10 Boston College. The New York native posted a staggering 72 saves, a .986 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. In game one, he turned aside a season-high 40 shots and followed it up with a 32-save shutout in game two. Zacher has amassed four straight upset wins over ranked opponents and is off to a perfect 3-0-0 start in league play.
Borgesi, Zacher and the Huskies are back at Matthews Arena for homecoming weekend as they host Stonehill for two games on Friday (Nov. 7) and Saturday (Nov. 8), both at 7 p.m.
